Hi, first i have to said that I try to do my best but my chameleon doesn't really have the right elements of life. I bought it at the end of August beginning of September and I realized later that it wasn't even legal to sell it, I don't know how old it is. The seller said it's a male but I don't even know if that's true. I believe it is a common chameleon. I haven't found a chameleon food seller so until now he only fed on flies that are found in my home and rarely on small grasshoppers when I find them for him.
So far everything is going pretty well but some time ago I noticed that his tongue wasn't sticking out very well anymore, he's almost no longer eating and I don't know what to do anymore, flies are becoming rare and when he sees them he only try to catch it once in two and even then, his tongue barely comes out of his mouth and he's too slow. I also feel like he's less active and sleeping a lot.
I am aware that my care leaves a lot to be desired and I already feel very guilty so I ask you if you have an idea of how to help him, if I could make a homemade preparation to compensate for the lack of his nutrition I will really be sincerely grateful.
For your information, I don't know any reptile specialist vets in my area, nor can I entrust it to someone qualified since I don't think it exists in my country either (believe me if I could give it to someone who can take care of him I would have already done so) and I can't release him in his current state either.
if you have a magic cocktail that we can make at home I'm interested..
I also feel bad for buying it, and I feel quite guilty so please no judgment

Using a translator…I don’t speak fluent French. I can read it most of the time though.

Black wolf…you said…

Questions so we can help you……
Où habitez-vous? (Where do you live?)

(Please show us several photos of your chameleon.)
(I assume that you don’t supplement the insects.)

Can you understand English? There’s a lot I need to explain but it’s going to be very hard to translate it all. I think your care needs a lot of help. I used to keep common chameleons many years ago.

@Manfredi said…” Il faut aussi lui donner di calcium avec vitamin D3.”…it’s recommended that you dust the insects light,y with a phis free calcium powder at all feedings but 2 a month and on those two feedings dust with a vitamin Powder containing a preformed source of vitamin A and D3. Providing a uvb long Linear tube light…either a Reptisun 5.0 or an Arcadia 6% long linear uvb light will provide he rest of the D3 needed. (If you are using all Native wild caught insects, then the vitamins may have to be adjusted.)

I’m not sure it’s a female. Did they tell you it was wild caught?
it’s definitely not in good condition.

how can you be sure he is not good ? it is his color or something else ?
there are not amazone here so i cant bye what you said
i dont have uv lamp but i try to let him in the sun when i can so he benefits from the heat and natural UV rays but this days its more rare

there are not fruit or aliments i can provide him which can remplace the chimical product and medecines ?

I have this at home, can it be beneficial ?

and yes i think it was a in the wild before i bought it

His colour, his eyes are sunken in (dehydration), he (or she) is extremely skinny, you can see her cheek bones.

To save the cham you need to quickly do the following:
- ensure it is hydrated
- ensure it is eating, you can force-feed her. There are techniques i can send you links to.
- ensure there are supplements on the insects. You need to put the insect in an empty glass, put some calcium (the one you have will do), and shake the glass until the insect is covered in the power. Then feed the insect.
- you need to ensure there is good UV (not just any UV). If you don't have a UV setup you can expose the cham to sunlight.
- you need to ensure there is a place with heat, take a thermometer and measure the temperature at the distance from the lamp.

My cham is also at the hospital now, I know the pain of feeling you might lose it...

Can you tell me the following:
- is the chameleon walking/moving?
- is the chameleon drinking (they don't drink from a bowl like a dog, they drink from leaves or surfaces by putting their tongue against the water droplet)?
- what is the temperature in his enclosure?
- if you can see his poo, is the poo dry or humid?

I want to help you stabilise your chameleon and improve the husbandry, but there are a lot of things that need to be done. Including giving it vitamin D3 and Vit A.

I can ship this to you today. There are vitamin supplements and concentrated calcium from my vet (with vet D3). I also have some warm worms that you can feed him, they have high fat content and they normally like them.
