Silkworms

Hey everyone I'm a newbie and just joined chamforums. I have a female sambava/ambanja cross breed around 4 months old. Is it okay to feed her silkworms? I have recently for the first time, and she ate 2 but for the past 3 days she has completely ignored them and refuses to chow down on them. Any ideas why?

In additon to the silkworms I had some crickets that she ate and 1 small hornworm that she chowed down on as well. I apolagize in advanced if the question has already been answered. I browsed through the archives but didn't see anything. Thanks for any feedback.

Welcome!
Yes, its okay to feed any age chameleon silkworms of an appropriate size. She may be refusing them because she got bored of them (they like variety, a different bug each meal) or perhaps the last one she ate was a little too big, or perhaps they arent moving around as much as the crickets and thus are not as exciting.

Silkworms don't move around much and therefore don't seem to trigger the hunting instinct like a faster moving feeder would.

After I put silkies on the branches for Gizmo, I actually blow on them to make them react and therefore "move" more. Seems to do the trick for Giz.

I find placing the silkworm on the side of the cage on the screen works... the worms tend to sway a bit trying to feel there way around the flat surface.

sometimes they don't grab the screen right away so you need to hold them to the screen for a second.

Thanks for the replies. My main concern was just ensuring that the silkworms were okay to eat. Thanks again. :)
