silkworms for a baby cham

I have a 5 month old baby cham and I have been struggling to find him silkworms. No stores in our area carry them so I have been ordering, but I want to order quantities that are manageable and useful! Ideally, I would order some itty bitty worms, as well as some small ones so he has some to eat right away and some that will grow while he is munching the small sized ones. I ordered from the Silkworm Shop last time, but now they are out of stock and they are the only shop I have found that sells them very small. Thoughts? I know this phase won't last forever, but he is so little yet, and we can't feed him big feeders. Shipping is so expensive and he is the only little pet we have, so I have nobody else to share with if bugs get too big or if we have too many. Seems like stock is a big problem. My sweet little baby is afraid of hornworms, so this is the only "worm" he likes.

Thanks for any help.

There are several different sources on line for silkworms and other feeders. Unfortunately, you often need to check their sites frequently as they sell out at times, but usually not for long. If you tell them that you are looking for smaller silks, they will usually be able to accommodate. Here’s just a few of the places I’ve gotten silkworms from.

This seems to be a regular problem with silkworms. I hope more silkworm suppliers join the fray soon. But i also know silkworms are a lot of work from egg to moth. I usually raise in small amounts, sticking only to a few thousand every batch

Hi and welcome! Won’t your cham eat crickets or Dubia roaches of an appropriate size? You can get them pretty easily. A variety of different insects are good for your little one.

Oh yes, he loves dubia's also. Crickets are a harder sell as I don't want to leave them in his enclosure and he doesn't want to eat out of his enclosure, but we are working on it! I have been relying on the silkworms a bit as a surefire bet when it comes to his eating as he continues to get used to us and his new home. It's just not as easy to get them small as I would like!
