Silkworms as a feeder?

How often can silkworms be fed as a feeder insect? Is it true that they can be used instead of crickets?

I feed them whenever I find them available. Unless you get extra food for them they won’t last long. They eat it up real quick.

I like to raise them from eggs that I buy off eBay sometimes. So I usually have 1000 or zero silk worms.
Silk worms for like a week at a time. I expect this isn't too far from what happens in nature when there is an insect hatch. Similar to fly fishing.
