silkworm breeding??

Has anyone tried to breed silkworms? Is it more trouble than it's worth?? It looks kind of complicated.

on my first two attempts I killed all the eggs. Now I'm starting to get the hang of it.

I just buy the eggs and chow from a feeder supply company not too far away. The eggs are easy to hatch and the silkworms fairly easy to raise. Far easier than trying to raise stinky crickets ... however I'm doing that too. Crickets seem to take far longer to grow and are very smelly. The money spent to buy the eggs & chow is FAR cheaper than buying silkies from the local pet stores!

My chams normally eat crickets with an occasional silkworm snack and when I run out of crickets they get a day or two of just silkworm feedings. Most of them seem to love the silkworms and you can't beat the nutritional value. That plus they don't bite, they're soft bodied and they don't jump all over the place or escape into your house!

Well buying a house and such has driven me to begin to breed my own food… Crickets are expensive! I go through 100+ a month in the damn things. So if by breeding my own roaches and silk worms I can save myself 60 bucks a month it is worth it! Also, the food quality of a roach and worm seems to be much better than a cricket.
