side sore....PLS HELP!!!1

hey all
my flapneck chameleon has a really bad sore on his side that just developed one day, it grows out and falls off leaving a hole in his side. now it seems to be getting worse.

it looks very bad and he has had it for over 2 months and polysporin isnt helping him and not healing.
I took him to the vet today and they said it could be an absese or tumor...
they want to do surgery on him to remove but it will cost a lot of money to do so..... i need a second opinion... has anyone seen this happen before?

Most flapnecks are imports. Some forms of parasitic worms migrate from the GI tract to tissues under the skin. It may be one has been encapsulated, formed an abscess, and it will keep re-forming unless the worm is removed.
 
I HAVE HAD HIM FOR 3 YEARS AND NOW THIS IS JUST STARTING.

IF IT WAS A PARASITE OF SOME SORT, WOULD IT HAVE WAITED THIS LONG TO APPEAR ON THE skin?
He is very active and eating well... i had a stool sample examined and it came back negative for parasites.

I will post some pictures of the sore when i get home and have a better camera....
 
Can you post a picture of it?

Is the hole open right to his insides?
IMHO you need to take it to a vet ASAP.

i have already taken him to a vet and they want to do surgery but with out test they cant tell me what it is.
 
Sorry...missed it when you said you took it to the vet.

Does it leave a hole right to the insides of the chameleon?
 
You stated that you have had for 3 years.-- This is just a statement not an accusation. But have you fed any wild caught insects to it lately? Reason I say this, many many years ago when I first got into this hobby. I had a captive hatched Nosy Be Panther & I made a huge mistake (being new at it)feeding it grasshoppers from my back yard. A simular if not exact sore appearred on its side. (Possibly one or few infesting parracites), No vet locally could help me much back then, and It perrished:(. Such a great Cham, but Im absolutly 100% sure It got the paracite from the hoppers. I wish I had known of Reptaid and other deworming paracite medications out there today. I might have been able to save the Guy!

i have never caught insects for him,i was told never to do that because of parasites, i have always bought them but that doesnt mean that where i buy them they arent catching insects and selling them to me....

I tested his stool and it came back negative for parisites and such...
 
Yea, could be from your bought source? who knows? But a single paracite already outside the intestinal tract and into the skin will not pass through the feces. One other thought? just for more insite from others that have vast knowledge here, what about some sort of Ecolli Bacteria or such. Picked up from a feeder?? Just thought I would put that out, or perhaps a spider bite, I have seen bites that fester in such ways.
 
Yea my explanation above about my Nosy Be. looked simular, at the lesion spot exactly like that only dif & was sortof darkened looking skin unawkwardly spiraled around the actual soar-- almost as if something had traveled below the skin before reaching the surface. But with yours --only one deep soar? Hmm the spider bite may be? By the way good job with your Senagle other than that it looks GREAT!

MY CHAMELEON HAS A SORE ON HIS SIDE. I WENT TO THE VET AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT SHOULD BE REMOVED (COSTLY PROCEDURE), HE IS A FLAPNECK, 3 YEARS OLD AND FULL OF ENERGY ALL THE TIME. EATING AND POOPING REGULARLY.
I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A PARASITE BUT A STOOL SAMPLE CAME BACK NEGATIVE ON THE SUBJECT.
HAS ANYONE SEEN THIS ON A CHAMELEON OR ANY OTHER REPTILE SPECIES.
PLS HELP ANY INFO WILL BE GREAT.:confused:

I WILL PUT UP SOME MORE TONIGHT CAUSE THIS ONE WAS A WHILE AGO

take a look in health issues i have put some other ones up and would like you to see them they are much clearer and give you a better idea of how big this thing really is.... they are very recent like 10mins ago.

And thank you very much he is my little baby.... one of my firsts! I take pride in my reptiles and thats why i need some help with this cause i have never seen this happen before.
 
im not sure, vet didnt say it was a bite but maybe an absese.

This sore/scab keeps growing out and falling off exposing flesh(almost like you pick off a scab) and it seeps blood and puss and takes about 2 days to start closing and scabbing over again, starting the process again.
 
If you don't feel comfortable with the vet then get a second opinion but I'd say that something needs to be done. That does not look good.
