Sick veiled cham? I think...

I have a question the op said she feeds him at 5:30 pm is that enough time for digestion. I feed my guys in the morning so they have all day to digest. Could this be an issue?

Good question, but with lights going off at 9PM, I think he should have enough warm hours for digestion. I don't know that they need most of a day to digest, but I may be wrong.

I remove feeders from the cage an hour before lights out. I recall reading somewhere when I had a beardie (instead of my current chameleon) that as long as they have about an hour of light after eating they're fine. I wouldn't think it'd take all day to digest...

i think i would definatly try to get to the vet. i lost my female veiled within a week of closing her eyes she had a worm infestation that was missed.
hope yours does better, good luck

It is a compact florescent and is only 3 months old

That is probably your problem, right there. Good call, Brad. When the UVB was listed as Repti-sun 5.0 I didn't realize those came in compact variety.

Here is what a senior member+ (Dave Weldon) said about these bulbs in an earlier post. He got this information from a research study:
"A little background: Of the more common UVB COMPACT fluorescent lamps, the ZooMed Reptisun 10.0 (and to a lesser extent the Reptisun 5.0 compact) is the one that posed the most danger due to its link to causing photo-kerato-conjunctivitis (snow-blindness) and also its output of non-solar spectral energy. On top of that, being a compact lamp, means that by design, the density of the energy (think compacted energy) means that it has an overall high energy output which chameleons don't usually benefit from.'

MissMelRoon, what you need to do today is turn off that bulb. From several old threads I remember seeing on this forum, your cham seems to be showing predictable effects of this bulb. Your cham is better off without it, and will just have to do without the UVB today. Then get a linear tube bulb and fixture to replace it. I would also check with Brad Ramsey and see what other course of action he would recommend to save your cham. The linear fixture can be purchased at a home improvement store, the bulb can be purchased at a pet store. Those compact bulbs cause health problems and can lead to death. Here is a thread about them:

If the compact UVB is bad, what do you recommend? I have kept the compact UVB lamp off for 2 days now and he is moving around more, he is moving his eyes around, but are still shut. What type of lamp should i get?
