Sick Nosy be, first time owner.

Alright so! Urkel has been doing well. Eating everyday, caught him eating some silkworms, butterworms, crickets, yet to see him eat a roach or a pheonix worm, but I still see him rubbing hiseye against the branches and cage. He's been outside everyday for ay least 3 to 4 hours if not the whole day! The eye he rubs is slightly mis-shapen and little less bulgy then the other , the other eye looks great perfectly round eye and bulgy. Is this due to supplemental issues? I have been dusting feeders mainly the crickets with calcium only and a touch of vit A to see if that helps, he was missing his prey for the first couple days he had started feeding again but has improved greatly and has been alot more accurate although he missed a silky right in front of him, which he then proceeded to scoop into his mouth. Any ideas chime in please!

Sounds like he may have something in his eye.

Get some saline, like for contacts, make sure it ONLY has saline in its ingredient list, and put a drop or two in the affected eye at least 3 times a day.
if the rubbing continues, or the shape of the eye gets worse, it might be time to see a vet as it could be an eye infection.

Hello all! So I have been using some ointment in urkels eye and its looking a lot better ! Still not as bulgy as bus other eye but getting there. Just had a random question I noticed him up at 2 in the morning under the infrared light I leave on if it gets cold in the house , it doesn't drop below 70 but I thought that might be too cold for him so I leave it on.. was he just cold or is there another reason why, this morning he eas already up and about at 5 when his lights came on when usually he has a lazy start .. is this normal?

I havnt read the whole thread but i am concerned about your infrared light. Your baby needs complete darkness for approx 12 hrs during the night. The light is possibly disturbing his sleep pattern. You dont need any heat during the night unless the temp drops drops below 50f and if it does you can use a ceramic bulb. Your cham will benifit from a drop of 10 degrees overnight.

I don't agree with the complete darkness part, it doesn't have to be pitch black in the room at all. The light, yes you should ditch that and let the temp drop at night. No need for a heat source, it is better for them to have that drop in temperature. I, more often than not, turn off Isabella/Bubba's lights at night but my leopard geckos lights are all on in the the same room for another two hours at times so that they can eat. Then all lights go off for everyone in the room. They always fall asleep within the first 5 minutes of me turning off there lights and them finding there comfy spot. Do not worry about have a little bit of light in the room at all. They will find where it is best to sleep and sleep. Not trying to argue or offend you kate in any shape way or form but I hate when people say that lol yes complete darkness is great for sleeping but it is not needed, they won't stay up all night :D

Anyway if you are really concerned like Kate said just get a ceramic emitter and use that. I doubt it will get to cold for him.

I am glad to hear though about his progress! Maybe post some pictures? :D

No offence taken. Mine when I think about it has natural light quite early in the mornings in the summer. I just felt that the infrared light could disturb he's sleep .:)

Thanks for the input! Well apprently the light is not supposed to bother them at night but I didn't think he could stand the cool of the house with the air conditioning ill leave it off! I'll get some pics up in a few! He's been doing great eating and active I even saw him eat a roach today that only took about two weeks or more of ignoring them and now he seems to like them, I wish he would cup feed but he refuses to eat anything but worms from the cup!

I guess it depends on the chameleon, but with my two even the smallest amount of light wakes them up so it has to be very dark. A temperature drop at night is good. If it gets too cold at night though there is always ceramic heat emitters, as they produce no light.
