Sick Nosy be, first time owner.

Breeder told me to stat away from mealworms no real nutritional value and try hornworms as a treat but ive just been trying anyhing to get him to eat.

Oy.. ok...

hes not really that far off food.

how comfortable are you with opening his mouth?

i ask because it might be time for some bug juice.. and youl have to put it in his mouth..

Yeah you need to scrap your current supplement schedule for sure. It sounds like d3 overdose, which can lead to vit A deficiency due to the fact that to much d3 disrupts the way they uptake vit A. You should be LIGHTLY dusting feeders using a plain precipitated calcium supplement at every feeding, and calcium w/ D3 2x a month and a multivitamin 2x a month. Rep-cal makes both of the calcium supplements and a good multi-vitamin that many keepers use is herptvite its also made by rep-cal. Make sure you get the phosphorus free kind, too much phosphorus affects the way calcium is absorbed and can lead to MBD.

Like others said just hydrate as much as possible stop supplements for a week or two. He'll eventually get hungry, so a just keep offering him food daily and maybe try some different feeders like silkworms or hornworms. Try and avoid the, he'll get addiction!

Hope this helps and good luck!:)

Well we have been getting him to open his mouth for thr meds and what not how do I make this bug juice ill do anything to make him better!

You wont like it. and if you have a significant other, they wont either.
;)

get your bugs.. ( no mealies or supers though)

and a blender..

put bugs in, a bit of water, your calcium no d3... and well.. i think you get the jist.

Haha poor bugs well I figured thats where you were going how much of this should I give him and how many times? My hubby and I love him and have been heartbroken since he got sick we want him to pull through!

yea its gross. haha.

i would start out small, maybe 5 bugs.. and go from there.

also, tiny tiny tiny amounts get put in his mouth, you dont want him to aspirate it.

Right right well I've been giving 0.2 mls of the repashy. Which he takes just fine but once that mouth opens once and he gets something in it it doesn't open again! Unless I do it once in the morn once at night. I try to so it fast so we dony stress him too much .

yea feeding bug juice is going to take more time..

if he opens his mouth for you,, it doesnt stress them out nearly as mcuh as forcing him to open it would (trust me i know, i forced meds for my panther when he had coccidia).

Hmm ok well ill make him some juice today and see how it goes . So this is what I'm going to do just to be clear! No more multivitamins, cal with d3 for a month or so, bug juice with tiny bit of calcium daily and plenty of water.. if he's going to improve it coulld be weeks right? Is that because he needs to "detox" in a way?

sounds good!
i would just do the calcium no d3 every other day for about a week.

and yes, he needs to detox. the water wil help with that.
if you can try to get him to eat a hornworm..
if he opens his mouth fo royu, try to stick a whole bug in there..

Thank you so much I have been so frustrated all these weeks trying to understand what was wrong I felt like a horrible owner which I kind.of am for getting.my supplements wrong. I hope he improves. Thanks again.

its ok. we all make mistakes.

you figured it out before something bigger happened.

get him hydrated, and he shoudl be ok in afew weeks.

good luck, any questions or updates feel free to postem!

Will def post pics and update, as far as being small did i mess him up forever or will he grow to normal size with proper care ?

hes only 9 months.. they can keep growing till they are 2 years old.

I cant say for sure if the d3 did or did not hurt him permanently. but hes still got time.. for now.. just breathe.

Very welcome!

Trust me I know the worry feeling..
got 4 adult chames, 38 eggs incubating, 30 more that were just laid..
