Sick Jackson

Hi my jackson is about a year and a half, he's got severe mouth rot, he had a small bump when I first caught him which started to get swollen but after a bit of crushed antibiotics it fully healed. recently he got another bump and this time I didn't have any antibiotics to give him I hoped it would just heal itself but it didn't and has been slowly getting worse! his whole bottom lip is swollen and bloody looking on one side, My mom's dog recently got fixed and she had antibiotics, so i've given him those to try and help but it's not doing anything. I'm really saddened by how much pain he seems to be in all he does is sleep, getting him to eat mealworms is extremely difficult if not impossible! My mom does not like him, and refused to take him to the vet i've called the one herp vet on our island and they couldn't really give me any help unless I came in for an apt. I don't know what to do i'm only 13 so I cannot take him myself nor can I afford a vet visit, my mother want's me to just let him go but i've had him since he was only a couple centimeters and i've grown very attached to him, I also cannot bare to let him sit and suffer. Is there any antibiotic cream or something more affordable!?

So sorry to hear about your chameleon. Unfortunately it sounds like it really needs to see a vet.

It's possible that the second infection came from the first one since with chameleons if the pus isn't cleaned out properly/completely it won't cure it and it will come back.

Also, if you are using antibiotics from a different animal, the dose is likely incorrect for the chameleon...and without a culture and sensitivity test you could be using the wrong or ineffective antibiotic.

I would suggest you email ferritinmyshoes on this forum to see if she has any advice for you. She's a vet and may be able to help you.

My Jackson recently had mouth rot. I caught it very early so it was pretty easy to get rid of- from what I've heard, it is fairly common for jacksons to have mouth issues.

It sounds like your jackson has a very bad case of it. There's no way to tell you what antibiotics you need for him without taking him to a vet. He is probably past the point of a cream. Since you can not afford a vet, you should atleast have him put down. It's not that expensive. Run it by your mom. Don't let him suffer. It's hard to let go, but if you truly love him, you would not let him suffer.

Like kinyonga said, send ferritinmyshoes a private message. She will be able to tell you what to do. I'm just fairly certain mouth rot can't be cured without a vet visit.

So so so so sorry to hear your jackson is sick. What's his name?

you need to go to the vet asp, mouth rot is very dangerous because everything happen too fast, you will be most likely need antibiotics
