My chameleon has been acting very strange lately. It started about 4 days ago when I came home one night to see him Laying at the bottom of the pot of his plant right side up. I picked him up and put him at the top of the branches where he usually is. The next day I took him out to examine him and noticed he cant walk/climb. He had sunken eyes. He kept gasping for air so when his mouth was open I tried to drip some water in and i was successful. The next morning I found him at the bottom of the cage with his feet grasping each other. They had a death grip on each other. It almost like he couldn't feel it. He is always gasping for air now and always has two feet on the branches and leans back like he is sitting in a chair and falling to the bottom and cant climb back to the top. Im going to the vet to get a fecal and if there is nothing I'm going to have a blood tests done. I think he might have a respiratory infection?

Respiratory infections alone don't cause a chameleon not to be able to walk/climb. It is possible he may have a respiratory problem, but I suspect something else is going on to cause him to not be able to climb. I would schedule a vet visit ASAP.

I do know that your husbandry is fine since I have seen with my own eyes. Did you get that Veiled as an adult? He may be older than you realize. With those symptoms I would certainly call Vet ASAP. Unless you see froth or bubbles I doubt it is respiratory. And if he had fallen I doubt he would have hurt himself in the cage he is in. This really does not sound good.

I just took him to the vet and there gonna take him for the weekend and give him a calcium injection and hydrate him. The vet is great! Its only gonna cost $70 for everything!

Excellent-I really love her. She did the same thing for my daughter's cat, and has taken some of my chams in like that. I feel really fortunate to have her in the area.

Oh crud-I am really sorry to hear that. It had to be something neurological-since I do know you take really good care of your animals.

Condolences my friend..
I am new to the community and see the level of attachment everyone has with their Chams. I love it!!
You acted quickly, took him to the vet, you did everything in your power. Im sure nothing makes it easier..

Thank you everyone for your support it means alot. The vet did every test she could possibly do. She said his calcium levels were very low. This didnt make any sense because I gut feed my crickets, supplly different feeders, and supplement. She said he didnt have MBD at all and that she thinks there was something neurological like julirs said. She gave him a two shots of calcium and blood tests and everything and she said that he just wasnt recovering. He was wild caught and was my very first chameleon :(. I still have a bunch of other guys I am caring for and Im taking them all to the vet to have her look at them just in case this doesnt happen again. I just wish I knew exactly what was wrong with him. This was the worest weekend ever because I lost my dog sat because of age(he was 15) and we had to put him down. Thanks again everyone for your support.

Having lost my girl Trixxi a week ago today i feel for you, hope the rest of your guys go from strength to strength
