Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Male Jackson's Chameleon. 6 Weeks old.
Handling - Only when necessary, which include cleaning the cage, or waking him up to move him to a part of the cage where his feeding dish is so he can eat.
Feeding - Fed pinhead crickets, micro mealworms and I've been trying extra small calciworms and dubia. He's eaten the dubia but not the calciworms yet.
Supplements - Reptivite Multivitamins and Zoo med reptile Calcium without D3, once or twice a month he gets calcium with D3. He gets calcium once to twice a week and multivits once or twice a month.
Watering - I try to use a drip system with a cup on top of the cage whenever I can, but it never works for more than an hour or two. I normally resort to spraying a leaf for him when I get home from school while he drinks his fill. He gets misted overall several times a day.
Fecal Description - White and Black, never been tested for parasites.
History - I bought him when he was only a week old, before I was educated on the fact they shouldn't be sold that long. The breeder said he gets the parents shipped to him from Hawaii.
When I first took care of him, he was dehydrated because he wouldn't drink, I eventually just had to use a dropper every time he chewed his food to sneak some water in his mouth. Eventually I caught him drinking from a leaf and he's been hydrated from then on from doing that.
Cage Info:
Cage Type - Custom Screen enclosure built with PVC piping and mesh. 12x12x22. No live plants, silk plants plastic and bendy petstore vines.
Lighting - Mini Halogen bulb hung approx 15 inches over basking spot for proper heat. Compact UVB 5.0. Reptisun if I remember correctly. This sits at the top of the cage. I plan to switch to a non-compact soon. He's on a 12 hour schedule.
Temperature - Lowest night temps drop to 65, only on cold nights. Lowest temperature in bottom of tank during the day is 70, with a basking spot of 80 currently.
Humidity - Humidity is kept at 50-90%, while letting the enclosure dry out before sprays several times a day. Every so often I put on his cool mist humidifier into the cage during the night, or especially while I'm at school.
Plants - No live plants, Silk plastic and naturalistic climbing vines.
Placement - Located next to my computer on my dresser, I'll admit that much of my time is spent right next to it. Top of the cage height is 52 inches from the floor.
Location - Alaska
He's had a nasty respiratory infection for the last week or so. I've been getting help for that and I'm going to acquire some Baytril shortly to give him. He's making an extremely slow recovery, but his mouth is no longer filled with mucus like it was when I came home from school one day, (2 days ago) so I assume he's getting slightly better.
My issue is eating, he was never a big eater and I couldn't normally get him to eat more than 2-3 small crickets a day. I eventually have been trying some variety recently. He'll normally only eat one baby dubia a day, or one mealworm. I can't get him to eat anymore than that. I know he's sick and need as much food as he can to recover. Yesterday he didn't eat anything at all. Today I got him to eat a mealworm. I'm desperate so please, if any one has any advice I'd be so grateful to hear it. I need him to eat...
