Showers?

So i was thinking about giving my cham a shower but tap water comes from showers i thought tap water is bad?

I know my water isn't great, so i use ro water. But I love to give showers so i feel tap water won't kill them. When they are done I just mist them with warm ro for a rinse

A little tap water from a shower should be ok every now and then. Personally I don't give showers unless I have a cham in need of one such as looking dehydrated or haven't pooped in awhile.

I take my Cham in the shower with me a few times a week he has a vine in there and often curls up and goes to sleep he absolutely loves it and finds it very relaxing. He doesn't drink while he's in there, he has a misting system and 24 hour dripper in his viv but he really enjoys it in there, he sits at the end of the shower and catches the mist and off spray, he's a very happy Cham very tame and is very tolerant of me and my partner, he's happy to be out with us as often as he can be and showers are a big part of that he's alot more sociable since he's been having them with us.

I used to take my African grey parrot into the shower with me. He loved it. They are very social birds and he really enjoyed me giving him a good rub down in there.

Sigh..."tap water" use depends on what's IN IT. If your water is from a municipal source it may contain chloramines or chlorine treatment chemicals. It may contain fluoride. These can can cause trouble for herps. An occasional shower probably isn't a problem, but you should find out what your water utility puts into the water if you use it routinely for drinking in your cham's setup. You may need to remove the treatment chemicals with a product such as Repti-Safe. If you have your own private well and the water doesn't require treatment to be safe for human consumption it should be fine. It may be very hard (high in minerals such as calcium, iron, etc). You can test your own water with an aquarium water testing kit to find out, or ask your utility to test it.

We often suggest placing chameleons in the shower with the water indirectly hitting the wall to "mist" the animal as a way to help hydrate. This is generally for a very dehydrated animal and likely causes stress for them. It shouldn't be done all the time in my opinion unless you are using a purifying shower head to remove chemicals and other contaminates. (This would be better for your skin as well )
