Show me your foggers....

I am planning a DIY fogger build for my chameleons and would like to see what other people have devised. I know you can make them out of ultrasonic humidifiers, but they can be difficult to clean and I enjoy the challenge of making things myself.

My plan thus far is to use a 6 quart food container with a lid. I will attach a hose to the side of the bucket which is in turn attached to a large funnel on the other end that sits on top of the cage. I will fill the bottle with 5-6 inches of RO water and place an ultrasonic fogger disc in it. Finally, I will attach a small fan to the lid to help push the fog out of the bucket and into the cage.

The fan and fogger will be attached to a timer and will turn on for a few minutes several times a day. this will become a build thread as well, once I actually start the build.

So there you have it. Lets see what you have!

I've used ultrasonic room humidifiers for years and didn't find them all that hard to maintain. I'm sure it depends on the model you have. Mine were the type with a 1.2 gal reservoir that sat on top of the nebulizer. The fog spout was on top of the reservoir. I used RO water in the unit and that kept it very clean for a long time. I removed the directional fog spout and attached pvc plumbing fittings (I think mine took a 1.5" diameter fitting), and either pvc or vinyl pool tubing to that. Then ran the pipe through a slit in the cage mesh, fairly high up in the cage so the fog would pour down over the foliage.

To keep the humidifier clean I'd use a bottle brush and wash it out with vinegar (to remove water deposits) and then with bleach solution to get rid of bacteria. To clean the tubing I'd run very hot water and the bleach solution through it and use the bottle brush on a stick to reach the whole length. Didn't really have many issues with this type of system at all especially if running a lot of water through it every day. Not much build up unless the water sits too long.
