Shipping Question

I have been shipping for years, but someone for the first time inquired about shipping to Puerto Rico. I am in the US.
I have no idea if it is legal, requires permits, etc., etc.
Anybody have any knowledge about this.

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States, so it's not exactly international shipping. I just checked UPS and they say that they do ship Next Day to Puerto Rico. It shouldn't be a problem, but you might want to double check with board sponsor Ship Your Reptiles.

I just read about someone one another forum who is in the same situation as you. Its illegall to ship live animals to PR, but I read people do it all the time. They claim to use UPS with no problems.

I have shipped two puppies to PR in the past with zero issues... it is one of the few places off the US coast we did not encounter any issues with, so I would think it's very possible but not sure about reptiles. I would call and ask the company you are going to be shipping with they should be able to tell you the requirements/restrictions on shipping reptiles to PR and if they do so.

I think every place, even states have their restrictions and reptiles are likely to be on the restricted list (you can't ship a chameleon to Massachusetts without proper certification).

Do you have any literature about the legality of shipping live animals to Puerto Rico?
I would like to read up on it. If it indeed it is illegal, it is not worth taking the chance.

Exotics are allowed but require certification and a permit. There's a number to call for a permit, one assumes that information on the certificate would be available from that source:
