Shedding issues

hey everyone, i have a 3 month old veiled chameleon and it hasent once shed in the time that i have had it, (since boxing day ) the only signs of shedding i have seen were 2 days ago around its elbows sheded but thats all

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?

i have a veiled chameleon it is about 4 months old and i have had it for a month now,

i handle my cham about once a week, sometimes less

i am feeding my cham a variaty of things such as pin head crickets, meals worms, super worms, and when i get crickets i usualy buy alot and have them in a seprate tank with lots of food. i feed him everyday once when he wakes up at aobut 7-7:30 and once around 4-5, i feed him as mcuh as he will eat in 5-10 mins

i dust my crickets once every 2-3 weeks with repti calcium

i mist the cage 3 time a day , he drinks off the leaves after every mist and long after everymist and he also opens his mouth a little while im misting and drinks then, but he shys away form the mist under or behind some leaves

hid droppings are brown and a really light yellow/white

my cham has never been tested for parasites



Cage Info:
i have him in a 18 inch cube, i no that is small but so is he and i have a must bigger cage ordered for him allready, the cage is 80% screen and 20% glass with sliding doors.

i am using a uvb 5.0 buld and a 75 watt basking spot lamp i turn them both on a 7am and both off at 7pm

the tempature at the middle of the cage is around 70 and near the top under the baskin light it reaches 80-85 the lowest over night tempature ive seen is 60 and that was only once so i turned my heat light on dimmed so no light but still heat, but its notmaly 65-70

i have a humidity guage thing i forget what its called but it messures the humididty and after misting it gores up to 90 then drops quickly back to 50 in about 3 hours thewn ill mist again, i use a spray bottle, still infesting in a mister

there are no live plants in this cage anyways but id liek to get some for the new cage, any suggestions ?

the cage is about 6 feet above my floor on a shelf, low to no trafic

i live in canada ontario

the plant section has a bunch of suggestions... the safest id recomend is a hibiscus, but they are harder to take care of, however your cham can chomp away and you dont have to worry.

pothos is another common, along with the umbrella tree plant, but if your cham starts to chomping you need to remove them

ficus are used as well just be careful because the milky sap can cause eye irritations

Let''s see if this will help, you need crickets that are 1/2 inch, that little guy will never get full on pinheads, and most likely won't eat them. Mealworms are not very nutritious, I would not feed those to him. Super worms are a good feeder but he is only 4 months old so unless they are small worms I would also hold off on those. Roaches or butter worms would be good feeders.

His crickets need to be very lightly dusted with calcium with no D each time you feed him. calcium with d3 should be used once a week, and a vitamin should be use 2 times a month.

You should increase his mistings if you are seeing him drink. Hydration is the single most important thing. Also misting him a lot will help him shed. He should shed soon, they all shed at different rates, so just relax and wait a while.

What a cute baby! I'm very much a newby on chameleons and I don't have a veiled, but this thread:https://www.chameleonforums.com/shedding-34094/ suggests that baby veileds can do a full shed in a few hours. Unless you are able to watch 24/7, chances are, it happened when you weren't looking. Probably the bits you saw at the elbows were the last moments of a shed. Sometimes the remnants of a shed seem to hang around for a really long time. Shed skin can get easily lost in the plants and cage decor. Or, the chameleon might eat it (perfectly fine, nothing to worry about).

The thread says that babies shed about once a month, so one shed would be about right for yours.

My littlest chameleon is a rudis and when she did her first full body shed it was about a 3 hour event. People were in the house when it happened, so I got a call at work, but by the time I got home, it was over.

I thought chams shedd bits of its skin off like piece by peace and it could take a week or so can some please enlighten me

Adults can take weeks to complete a shed. Babies can be done in a matter of hours.

If it dosent shed within the next 4-6 weeks, then I'd be wondering if its eating enough and if humidity is ok, but its only been a month, they grow fast in the first 6 months or so, but not that fast. Itll happen as it needs to, No need for concern.
