Sharp inhalation after drinking

My Cham inhales after drinking sharply. At first I thought it me be RI but he has no symptoms. He doesn't do it any other time apart from after drinking.

Mine did the same thing. They have to hold their breath when they drink and then swallow a few time to get all the water out of their mouths before they can take a breath.

Seems like sometimes they drink more than they intended and/or it takes longer than they planned to get it all down away from their trachea so they can take a breath. Just like when we are really thirsty and guzzle a bunch of water then take a deep breath afterward.

Just one more thing to keep an eye on. :) Could be a reduced ability to swallow efficiently but more likely they just took in more at once than they intended...

Ye this is what it seems like. He shows no signs of infection so I will keep an eye on it but have to assume its nothing.

Thanks for replying BTW

No problem! Glad I could help a little.

Does your always stretch his face up and back some and maybe a little side to side motion too? If so, you may want to watch the size of food you give and just stick to more smaller sized bugs and maybe make the size of the droplets of water smaller?

My guy seemed to have more trouble swallowing anything from the very beginning and vet told me that maybe his throat was smaller or something? He was "special needs" in more ways than just that and I just had to watch him a bit closer than most. After he got sick and couldn't lift his head as much, sometimes he would end up breathing in some of the water an blowing it back out his nostrils!

Yes he does occasionally do that. I will reduce the size of his crickets. Weird how you knew he would be doing that, good info tho thanks

I just had a cham with the same issue is all! People aren't all the same so why should chams be? Nothing wrong with it other than not being able to eat same size bugs as "normal" chams that are the same size/age.

Don't tell him he's not normal and he'll probably never know that he's not!!!

LOL
