Shaking a chameleon?!!??

I just walked in on my fucking little brother shaking my chameleon! He was aggressively and violently shaking him up and down. I grabbed my chameleon and punched my brother as hard as I could. When I asked him why he was doing it he said that he was trying to make him dizzy! Will he be okay?!?

Wow that's terrible. Sorry to hear that. How old is your chameleon and what is he doing now? Its kind of late should be lights out right now. Did your brother wake him up first? Let us know the signs he is showing right now.

I have no idea as I have never heard of anyone being that cruel to a chameleon. How old is your brother? He must be young, or atleast I hope too young to know it IS wrong.

You'll definitely want to keep an eye on your chameleon. Shaking can cause all sorts of injuries to pretty much any animal.

He is 7-8 month old Jackson. And my brother is 10! My Cham was up earlier, but I'm worried that he was already dehydrated. I've literally been crying for the last 20 minutes I'm so worried

Just keep an eye on him and keep him on the same sleep schedule. Check his grip to make sure he can keep himself up while sleeping. Does he seem to be trembling or wobbly?

Damn doing that at 10 years old? Better tell your pops to bring out the ol' trusty leather belt

Hope your cham is okay! Give us updates on his condition.

I'd be going out and purchasing some hose pipe about now and beating 7 shades of shit outa him with it.... (Leaves no bruises y'see)

whats the latest is your chameleon ok???? if i found anyone doing that to my chameleon they woud be falling out my bedroom window in a flash!

A sibling punching a sibling is one thing, an adult hitting a child is very different.

May be worth finding a way to put a padlock on your chameleon enclosure. Siblings (especially younger brothers) have limited common sense once they know what pisses you off.

While violence can make a point, it does not completely resolve issues.

I urge you to handle matters differently in the future.

I hope your chameleon is ok. :(

Yeah, well, fear of getting punched for doing something is great incentive to NOT do it any more :D

You can mess with me but dont F*%& with my chams! make him dizzy! go throw your little brother inthe dryer make him a little dizzy!

It would be nice if there were no more injuries associated with this problem. And, I agree with Trillian: now that he knows this will set you off, you can expect him to mess with your chameleon every chance he gets. Locking the room would be the best option, if that's impossible, putting a lock on the cage would be appropriate.

Your parents should be informed and you should tell them that if your chameleon needs medical care, your brother should pay for that. They need to understand that this was a "prank" with the potential to cause extreme damage and cost a great deal.

This. Unless your brother is taught that it is incredibly wrong to do something like this to another live being (you will probably need your parents help to back you up on this) then he will probably do it again. Find a way to make it impossible for him to do it again.

I would keep a very close eye on the animal ( i wouldnt leave the cham room and stop observing for at least a full day), and take it to the vet at the slightest concern. COuld be serious bruising, broken bones....

Clearly the chameleon should be kept more securely - a pad lock on the cage door is a good idea.

And I agree that further violence is NOT a good way to respond, if you want that little brother to reduce being violent and mean himself. violence begets violence
