Shade vs Uv

I think that I've asked this before and I either don't remember or was confused. If you leave your Cham outside under the canopy, will he still get the benefit of the rays? I know you can still get uv on cloudy days, so is this the same difference? Or do they need DIRECT sunlight? Thanks!
 
I was wondering this as well. Because im sure they would feel alot more comftorable under the shade.
 
From my understanding yes the benefits are still unless completely blocked from the sky.. Im sure greatly reduced but still available.. http://www.cnn.com/TECH/science/9807/14/shade1.enn/

So if it's a completely sunny sky, and the only thing obstructing the rays is the canopy, it's all good? It's 90+ degrees and humid and I have the baby under the canopy. Lots and lots of water and mistings...
 
From what i read. Uvb doesnt just rain down from the sun. It actually bounces around. As long as there is visible skies uvb will be there.

Now, imo i would not keep an animal away from direct sunlight at some point. The way i have my cages set up at the moment (kinda my only option). They will only receive the evening sun. Its been to darn hot here for them to weather mid afternoon rays. If i were you i would figure out a way for them to get atleast a few hours a day sunlight, i personally prefer the morning sun.
 
So maybe an hour or so of direct/shaded light and the rest canopy time would suffice? Just too hot for much more than that...
 
With all that said, the cage sits on a patio table, with the top of the cage approx 4-5 below the canopy. Sounds to me that this is a good enough distance to still absorb some UVB and no 5.0 inside would be necessary. Correct me if I'm mistaken...

That is also what I got out of it as the readings from HOJ show that even in shade the Cham is still getting more UVB than the 5.0 tube gives. Now I take it by you saying 4-5 you are saying 4'-5' feet right?

Yes. 4-5 FEET below the canopy. Sorry about that... :)
