Sexing Verrucosus

From what i have read, there are 3: Fort Dauphin, Semicristasus, and Moronda. Do you say that they are just phases?

According to Wikispecies, there are 2 subspecies. F. verrucosus verrucosus and F. verrucosus semicristatus. The others might just be color morphs.

No F. verrucosus verrucosus is the main species the nominate form and is not a subspecies. F. verrucosus semicristatus is the only sub species (for now). The others are just other color phases/ morphs from seperate locals similar as to what is seen with Furcifer pardalis.:D

Fort Dauphin and Moronda are towns/ locations (similar to Nosy Be and Ambanja for Panther chameleons) while semicristatus is the subspecies name (such as Calumma parsonii cristifer instead of main or nominate form C. parsonii parsonii).:D

The nominate form would still be a subspecies. It's just the one that was described first. Here is the Wikipedia article explaining subspecies.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subspecies

If you read that article more clearly F verrucosus verrucosus is the main species and without F. verrucosus semicristatus would not have a subspecies. Thus making F. verrucosus semicristatus the only subspecies. Re-read that Wikipedia article a couple more time and you may see what they mean.

They do make them out to be two subspecies I'm pretty certain there is only one subspecies as listing a species as F. verrucosus verrucosus or C.parsonii parsonii is the way to present the main species. Chris Anderson if your out there chim in on this one. With taxonomy, opinions are being changed continually and to see listings like this does not surprise me. I still say from the from other readings there is only one subspecies officially listed for F. verrucosus.

Kinyonga when you searched for these sites did you enter F. verrucosus for the search this maybe similar to highlighted segment of what is being searched for.

I think I was wrong. When the main species has a subspecies the two are considered two subspecies. As seen from review other animals species. Sorry I hope I did not through everyone off. Correct me if I'm wrong.
