Sexing Gracilior Babies #4

Seven weeks, 4g.

I think this is a male. I would really appreciate comments/tips from others who have experience sexing baby quads in general and graciliors in particular. These are my first ever babies.

I know you put in a lot of work and hardship when they were imported to you'll, and am glad you are having some luck and results finally. Keep it up. Just don't 'crash the market' :D with too many hatchlings. Good luck.

I would say male also. He looks great Janet:)

Thanks, Tylene.

When do you really know if it is a male or a female?

I would like to start looking for homes for them, but I don't know when I can offer them. Three pair are spoken for, but that leaves six individuals, assuming I have at least three of each sex to make up three pair.

They are only just over 7 weeks old.

Not much chance of that happening!

Gene Cash and I have only been able to find 9 adults. I think these are the only babies available right now and will be for some time. I have another clutch laid the end of August due to hatch the end of January and another breeder has bred a pair. There might be a second clutch that just hatched, but I don't think that will be available to anyone in the US.

So, that's it in the US as far as I've been able to find. There were only about 50 of them imported in the two imports last winter. Both shipments had more than their share of health problems and people really experienced with the species lost a lot of animals.

Thanks, Tylene.

The gracilior don't have as prominent of a sail and ridges down the back as the quad quads do. I could tell on mine, but from what I've heard these are harder to sex. I shipped mine at 4g. On the quad quads, the females had a smooth back and just a hint of sail, while the males had ridges and more prominent sails. You can check on my old threads to see the difference. But to be sure, the males start to get horns, while the females don't have more than just buds.

Here is a male about the same age:

There is a woman from Europe on Facebook that has lots of them, she might be able to help you more. I don't think she is on the forums. Pm me if you want her name.
