Sense of smell

So are there any studies done on a chameleon's sense of smell? Can they smell, or any evidence that they can? It seems like those orifices are just for breathing. XD

There was a thread awhile back on this and Chris Anderson, who is very well educated in chameleon anatomy explained it well. I will see if I can find the thread for you, but if I remember right, their sense of smell is not too great.

here ya go ! Sorry about that! I found a thread on hearing instead of smell and posted that and realized after you wanted it on sense or smell. So I deleted it and went back and could not find the one I was looking for! If I find it, I will post if for ya! I still recall they do not smell good though!

I believe Veiled's might have a of smell. I remember when i would place bell pepper in my veileds enclosure, even though he couldn't actually see it, he would appear to know it was there based on the strong smell it produced and go right over to it.
