Hi, I'm new. Have 2 yr old Cham named Bruce Banner. (Original I know lol) we got him at about 6 months of age or as estimated by the store. Everything's been great until a bad shed. He had skin in his eye. We went to the vet, AND the ER yesterday with him. 1st visit, good behavior still hunting with one bad eye. Got some broad spectrum eye antibiotic. Some improvement. Yesterday, he was slow, both eyes closed slightly sinking in :( $220 later we have 4 x-Ray pics and a husbandry antibiotic and feeding kit. Little saringes. The administered a tiny shot for fluids. In reading this forum I decided to join. This is our first cham. I recently changed jobs so Bruce experienced some changes too. (I'm mom and my better half is dad) well dad's been feeding him now in the mornings. Hes been dusting with calcium that has d3. I fear it's the cause of little Bruce's ailments. I use a blue liquid additive for his water, it takes out chlorine and has electrolytes and calcium. I dust rarely if at all once or twice a month, when I dust I was using the calcium with d3 and reptivite vitamin on them. His cage is 24x24x36. Hes been super happy, is very social oddly and loves to come out with me in the sun for a few Times a week for maybe 15-20 mins. Not too long, I'm a ginger and he's just tiny if Sun exposure is questioned. Hes misted every few hours by a mister, and I spray him occasionally, he even drinks from my spray bottle. One nostril is slightly swollen, and has a whitish around it. I fear daddy has dusted too often and he's suffering the d3 effects. Hes had his second saringe feeding. His eyes are not so sunken, he's a nice green. But sleeping A LOT. So far on my hand now almost two hours. HiS little feeties are peach again. We had a dripper and still do but he licks his leaves and takes from the bottle, he is aware of the spray bottle and drinks til he doesn't want any more. Cage is at temp 79-83 on the top cooler at the bottom. 100watt red heat, and his sun bulb. Lights are on a timer. Cage is kept clean. Felt bottom. I let him hunt his crickets, no cup, as he seems to prefer vs the cup as we have tried. Crickets horn worms butter worms. Occasionally meal worms. This place has a multitude of info and I hope to contribute and learn. His pic is up to date from this morning. Thankful for this place and appreciate any info! :D

Welcome to the forum!

Please post a photo of the bump on the nose.

It's recommended that you dust at almost every feeding with a phosphorous - free calcium powder to make up for the usually poor ratio of calcium to phosphorous found in most feeder insects. Dusting with a phosphorous - free calcium D3 powder and with a vitamin powder should only be done twice a month. Also you need to be careful with prEformed vitamin A. PrEformed vitamin A can build up in the system just like the D3 from supplements can.

Good bone health requires a balance between calcium, phosphorous, D3 and vitamin A.

I'm not sure putting calcium in the water is a good thing. I wouldn't want to get it in his eyes.

You should also make sure you feed / gutload the insects such as crickets, roaches, locusts, superworms properly with a wide assortment of greens such as collards, escarole, endive, dandelion greens, kale, etc and veggies such as carrots, sweet red pepper, squash, zucchini, sweet potato, etc.

 ok so the water additive we use is just for making the water safe. It has electrolytes and a small amount of calcium. Got it at the reptile store. Been using it for 18 months and nothing until now. Beardies, my snake and little Bruce. All symptoms started with the eye and then the change of morning caregivers. His nostrils are normal today so I can't post a pic until later after work. He is still lethargic. I was giving him the d3 free no phosphorus calcium but only twice a month. On Sundays. I've had my nose in books and any info available on the net to help me care for my little guy. His insects are allowed to eat the bearded dragon salads and gutload. They live well before they are fed to my little guys. I guess I have to ask if there is anything I can give him to help remove the d3?

ITS A GIRL!! (wth)

*UPDATE*This morning's vet visit (still visiting) has determined by blood work our little Bruce Banner is a girl. A first time virgin egg bound one possibly. So, now I get to search forums for Senegal cham egg laying needs. We plan to change the uvb, and get a nice plant but what's best Plantwise? Vet will be giving a diff antibiotic, and a shot for the egg laying? She's dehydrated so we have to work with her, vets administering fluids again and I've read a little bit about pedialyte with a mashed cricket? We are new to this but want to be armed with everything we can to get her through this comfortably. Blood work results should be in later today hopefully. Flying by the seat of our pants but now, $500 in vet bills later we are hungrier for knowledge than ever. Hope I'm posting this in the right spot, being a newb, otherwise point :)

How did the vet conclude that she might be eggbound?
Can you post a photo of the swollen nostril and of the whole chameleon from the side please?

Forgive me, I'm doing this on an HTC m8. How do I attach some pictures? I have her in my hand sunning a bit. She was just fed.
