So my mamma Jack gave birth to 9 baby Jacks yesterday. I'm taking good care of them and I have intrest in selling them to get a pair of sub species of Jacks (mt. kenya or dwarf). The Chicago Reptile House offered me $25 bucks each at 2 months old. I don't think thats the best offer but they have to make profit too. My question is how much should I sell them for at a fair price? Does age matter on how much to sell them at? Thanks for the help

Yah, what Syn said.
Make it clear they are not wild caught.
Older ones go for more, because you have to work to get them to that age.

ok noob here. wc meeeaaannnss...wild caught right? I orginally bought my first pair of Jacks at a LLL vendor at a reptile show. anywho, my chams are captive bred

to ellron, yeah i told them they are not wc. I just figured at 2 months old they'd be less pricey...but not that cheap! so what should I price them around?

In my opinion if they are healthy, $25 is too low. I'm sure if you took the time to sell them to members on the forum you'd make more money.

Post a couple ads in the Classified section of this forum to see what people are offering.

The price they offered ($25 at 2months) is around the standard wholesale price. $35 is the price you should shoot for though. Goodluck with them!!!

ill buy one from you

I do think you should look to board members for customers. That will, of course, mean you have to ship them and that will increase the price you have to charge. That's something to factor in.

I've seen captive bred (they said) young (less than 2 inches nose to vent) Jackson's at a local store for $29. So, to me, $25 dollars for wholesale doesn't seem unreasonable.

Do the math on what you'd have to charge someone if you had to ship the animal, then decide.

If you will raise them to about 3 months. I would shoot for $50 bux each. Youre going to be out alot of money in ff's and pin's in 2-3 months time. Even at 50 your not going to make much.

No it is not too low. There is a high risk of losing a lot of the clutch at that age. The pet store is taking a risk that they will survive. That price is fair for an animal that has a 50% chance of living. Over 4 months old and you will get more for them as they have a better chance at survival.

Not to be rude... But I highly doubt it.

EDIT: LOL... Sorry.. I just misread your comment. I suppose you would be safe to say that the chameleons that birthed out in your home are CB.;)

I think hes saying the chams he's selling are cb not the ones he purchased from LLL. At least thats the way i understood it.

Dude, if you really want to make any $$$. Wait for a local show and sell them all there. If you bring one of the parents and set up a table with a decent presentation you can sell them all for 50-75 each depending on age. But your going to have to feed em all for 3-4 months minimum.

realistic expectations

here i go raining on the parade again, not my intention, but you will be better prepared if you have realistic expectations. they generally arent considered saleable until they reach 3 months of age, so before you go counting your $, you should be aware that it is a long road to get them to that stage. even appearently healthy and well cared for xanth neonates, have a reputation for dropping dead for no appearent reason between 2-3 months, the best way to start that process, would be to assume you have got it all under control. if this is your first clutch, you would be doing very well indeed to get all 9 (or even the majority) to 3 months of age. if you are not raising your own feeders, expect to spend $100 or more on feeders getting them to that age. i dont know what it costs for a vendors table at shows in your area, but a table at the nw only major reptile show, costs about $250 jmo
