Hey guys,

My pet shop have 2 Mellers in! Here in the UK there aren't an awful lot of chams about so I was pretty excited to see one. The guy even got one of them out so we could have a little closer peek. Wow they were gorgeous, shame we don't have room for another!

Wow! You are so lucky! I would SO love to see one of them! Were they babies or adults? Did you hold one?:D I am like a big kid in a sweet shop when I go and buy Amy's food, lol! Wish I had been there!:D

Didn't have a hold, but he put his two front feet and gripped my fingers hehe. He was such a friendly guy. I couldn't believe how big his feet were compared to seeing my little Tilly's tiny feet. He was lovely.

This is one my daughter use to have. She was as gentle as a lamb.

There was lovely mellers in a pet shop near me aswell, I walked in there one day and it was free ranging on a wire right infront of me. watched him go round and snag a juicy fly from the ceiling. The guy in the shop said he was a juvinile but he was already huge!

the ept shop i used to go to had a mellers they used to free range too. It was so fun watching that guy in actoin

I LOVE melleri's big hammy feet! They really have some mitts. Melleri vary so much in temperment...from green striped housecats who actually seem to like you, to completely surly and spiteful. A nice melleri is such a joy to have around. My first female was so sweet to everything except a camera lense and the glass stereo cabinet door. She would stand in front of it glaring, flapping, roaring, rocking, tail curling, and then stalk around to the back looking for the boasting cham she knew was there somewhere. Then I had the fun of disentangling her from all the electronics wiring.

I remember we got out first Chameleon, a mellers. We saw him at a pet store and were so amazed by his size that we ended up buying him. He was very very sweet. Little did we know, he was very sick. When we bought him, the guy said he just recovered from an eye infection and gave us the name of the vet that was handling it, for future reference. Well, about 2 months later, he had his eye closed so we took him to the vet. She gave him some vaseline type stuff and we put it on his eye as prescribed. I searched the internet to see if it really was an eye infection, and about 30 minutes of searching, I realized it was a vitamin A deficiency. So obviously, this vet didnt know what she was talking about so we found another vet a couple days later who confirmed that this was a vitamin problem. She gave him a shot, but by that time, it was too late. He died the next day. We didnt know what we were getting ourselves into when we bought Dinosaur from the pet store. I really loved Dinosaurs personality during the time that we had him.
We then waited for a couple months and I then researched this breed of chameleon and I knew i wanted another one. Not just any kind. I wanted a Mellers! My boyfriend was showing me all the different types of chameleons though and I was being stubborn because I already knew what I wanted.
So, my boyfriend found this great breeder and we went through the adoption stuff and emailing back and forth and we waited for a while for the weather to warm up and now, we have this great Mellers Chameleon. Cheery. Weve had him since he was 4 months old. He is now 2 years old and is THE GREATEST little guy anyone could ever ask for. We love him to death. I took this picture earlier after his shower. I couldnt ask for anything more! :D:D:D:D

Well that's a great story to hear...a cb melleri raised successfully in an experienced home. Not many of these around even now let alone 2 years ago. Is he free ranged?

She is really great! Her setup is pretty sweet. The misting system shes got going on is awesome. Shes so knowledgeable about Mellers too. Its amazing.

HmC...how do you know it was a vit. A deficiency that killed it? Did it show up in a necropsy?

She knew right as soon as she saw him. My boyfriend took him to the vet, so I wasnt there to hear all the information. But the way his eyes looked gave it off right away. They were very swollen. He had a weird crystal like buildup around one of them. He had a loss of appetite. And he was very weak - even before we took him to the vet. We never did a necropsy because at the time (pre-forum), we didnt know this could be done. We both knew how to house and feed him, but theres alot more to know than just that. And this forum is a great way to learn everything you ever NEEDED to know. But since then (its been about 2.5 years) Weve researched everything about everything on all of our animals. We have 15 different types of reptiles now and are all in good health. We even just recently found a vet that works specifically with exotic birds and reptiles. :D
