sealing the screen on my cage

ok well after multiple times before finishing my cage and many times afterwards some how ...some how i still am finding some little frilled spots of metal...only as the very bottom of the door on his cage.To help with it while i was building i folding over the screen multi times and then stapled it down while clipping and filing the points off.I read somewhere and cant find it now that i could use silicone or caulk? i diff could be wrong so please correct me. Also with the whatever on the screeni would use, would it heat up and become soft again and again from the heat ? just would be worried my new buddy would get into it or eat it... any help thanks!

When you said you've folded it multiple times before stapling it down, I'm assuming it is a wooden framed cage? You could just put some strips of very thin wood like veneers or paneling the same width as your door frame pieces and tack them down. I built a cage a long time ago when I was a kid and I did this so the screen wouldn't cause injury. It was for a bunch of Green snakes I caught at the lake one summer. They would rub their noses against the screen. I think it would be easier, less likely to come loose again and longer lasting than the silicone.
