Schefferla plants!

well i recentely went to a reptile expo and bought a schefferla aboricola plant, i have heard different things about the plants regaurding veiled chameleons. i will soon be buying a baby and wondering him if there is anything bad about the plant and if they can eat it please reply lots of people are wondering thanks guys

These, schefferla plants are not safe for veiled chameleons because they are toxic if eaten, and panthers and veiled are the only ones who eat plants, i recommend buying a hibiscus, it is 100% safe to eat and if put under the uvb lights it will do just fine. If you don't want your chameleon to get sick I think that you should get rid of it.

Scheffleuras can be toxic if eaten in any large quantity... so check to see if your baby's a plant eater... we have a veiled who won't touch the green stuff XD

i have four.
first, panthers dont eat plants. generally speaking.
second- it would not be on the safe plant list on this site if it wasnt safe to eat in any quantity.
third- veileds primarily eat bugs, they dont just chow down on plants ( generally) while veileds are more likley to eat plants, its not like theyll eat 20 leaves a day.
fourth- hibiscus can be hard to take care of. and a uvb light wont do much to help itl

But honestly? I have a veiled... and a Schefflera with her, we have yet to see one missing leaf, so I wouldn't worry

My veiled chameleon loves to eat hibuicus, that is why i recommend it, he eats it every day, i reseached and some panthers are known to eat plants in their lifetime, and yes hibicus is hard to care for but not that hard. Also I do all my research before i give any one any information, and if eaten in large quantities it can make a chameleon sick!!!!!! All I do is research for days before I use anything with my chameleon.

The plant is fine... and I do recommend using it.

First off, it is awesome for coverage, that with a flourishing Pothos make for a great combination with coverage and some home grown highways.

Second, it is safe for them to nibble on.

Third? It is an easy plant to care for. If you want something you can keep steadily in your set up without having to remove it for proper lighting/watering every other week.. use it.

well anything eaten in large quantities can make you sick!
you cannot tell someoen that the plant isnt safe when it is.

if you can keep a hibiscus alive, great for you, most o fus have issues with them and dont recommend them unlesss you are an avid gardener.

if a chameleon is eating large quantities of a plant, it means they are missing something in their diet, vitamin, nutrient, bug, etc.

we also try to feed other greens, such as mustard, collard, dandilions, fruits, veggies, so that the DONT eat the enclosure plants.


i didnt say panthers NEVER eat plants, i said they generally dont.

well i as you know i have the plant and i still plan on getting the baby veiled at the narbc show in march i will try the plant in if he excessively eats it i will remove it but a couple nibbles np thanks for the help guys so excited to get into the chameleon hobby! i will come to you guys if i need help buying other supplies for his enclosoure so if you have any thing else to add about anything in veiled chameleon cages i should definetely know just post it!

Sorry i didn't mean t start an argument, it's just i research these things a lot, I am very careful with my chameleon, it is now winter, and my chameleon has started to eat plants, so i bought him a hibiscus an just wanted to let you know that any thing that is toxic is not good in any quantities, also pothos would be a good choice, just looking out for other chameleon owners.

if he excessevely eats it, try feeding him fruits and veggies.
most dont gorge themselves, you just might see a few v shaped nibbles here and there.

and plants, lots o fthem, dowl rods make great highways through the plants.
pothos are gretqa vines and grow quickly.

as i said, scheffelara would not be on the safe plant llist if it was toxic. try feedinh your chamelon fruits and veggies, so he doestn munch your plant so much,
this is not an arguement, merely a discussion.

Pictures are a must! The instant kind... as in the minute you pick him/her up we demand pictures D:!

Good luck in your search for a little one! Remember, once you go cham... you will end up having a house full of them and a food bill that will scare the parents of new born children

Tons and tons of coverage will make your little one happy! If you can manage to hang a pothos, that would be awesome, you can also attach the fake vines to the mesh of the tank using wire (just make sure the cut ends are outside the tank) so you can give your little one some crazy highways to run around on.
