Sambava now a days

Seems like the Sambava specimens lately are showing more greenish blue?

When I first got into this hobby, I've never seen any Sambava close to what I see now...

Some look part Mitsio, some look like they have 25% Ambilobe in them... Do people have pictures of Sambava in their natural environment?

I've seen some wild Tamatave pix, and ALOT of the Ambanja area..

I would agree. Based off many of the panther chameleon pictures I have seen, I would also say that sambavas seem to be accumulating different colors other than the original yellow, orange and fire-red palate. I wonder why that is ? Maybe because some breeders are not using true bloodlines.

I think it may be a result of some people not recognizing Andapa ect as seperate from Sambava. I think the Andapa occationally show the blue, where the sambava we are used to typically have the red. I know at least one of the most popular breeders out there doesn't recognize a difference between andapa and sambava.

Dont forget the effects of selective breeding. Those who breed tend to pick the animals that look best to them, not necessarily what looks like the wild stock. NosyBe is a good example of this. Those "true blue" animals so many people want dont really represent what a NosyBe looks like in the wild, from what I understand.

Here's a picture of one of my first chameleons back in the day when you could get WC panthers in the uk,he was truly massive!
I miss him so much i did have babys from him and they were also stunning

Ya was kinda thinken the u bar should be there. I have 3 Sambava adult males. 2 have really nice u bar one of the two are so thick and red it's just amazing :). But the third you can barley see them....but they are still there. Two will be at the San Diego show. Some Breeders really don't seem to care about the lines being clean. Way back when I first started getting into Chams I bought a diego Suarez from a guy super nice Cham. I could not find a female for nothing asked if knew anyone he said no but suggested to buy a Sambava as they are close enough. Needless to say I waited......

Here's a great site by our member RedTom of nothing but wild panther chameleons in Madagascar. Isn't it interesting how not ALL Sambavas have a "U" shaped bar?

Kent, very sweet site with awesome pix/info! thanks alot for filling me in on that.

The N. Mitsio shows some orange and the slightest amount of blue.

The Ambilobe, some are red/orange bodied are outstanding! Talk about wild beauty, those few guys need to get into the state blood lines ;].

And wow, Sirama/Ambilobe... how is it possible to tell the difference between some specimens. Some of them look almost identical to color placements.

Comparing that Sambava... it's like seeing a hybrid around the chameleon sites.

For the Nosey Be... I have seen plenty "Ambilobes" for sale looking identical to that one with the tad bits of red behind those baby blues.

This all comes down to good exporters...And good breeders of course.

I stumbled on to this thread a little while ago, and I was wondering... does anyone have photos of current Sambava showing the green/blue coloration?

My 5 month old Sambava is definitely starting to show some..

Here's one of mine, just about to shed, so color is a little dull.

this is a good thread and I have been interested in this idea for some time. I also, have noticed a significant change in the look of a sambava. I have a male and female I can gaurantee are pure sambavas. The only way I know this is because my breeder is extrememly trustworthy.

From your website: "This second video is of a juvenile sambava blending in with the background"

A pretty sambava but... ::cough:: chameleons don't mimic their surroundings ::cough::
