Sadie is laying eggs!

I came home today to find little Sadie (7.5mo Ambilobe) backed in a hole laying some eggs. I was unaware she was even close to laying, I guess I was wrong. Good thing I had a suitable place for her to lay and was on the safe side.:) I called Laurie as soon as I saw her in the hole and she talked me through the process. I was very careful not to disturbe her whatsoever. Although these are infertile, I still want to make sure all the necsasary precautions are taken to ensure a smooth process. I don't know how long she is going to be in her hole, so I may be sleeping on the sofa tonight!:)

I will update this thread as soon as I have more information!

Can you tell I am nervous!?!?!?:(

ZOMG lol random? That's awesome though! Kind of funny you thought she was receptive and she was actually gravid. How is she doing??

-Andrea

Shes still in there moving around....:)

Andrea,

She didn't really throw gravid coloring, I guess I didn't expect her to lay so soon.

I am new at this part, none of the kids have layed before....

was gonna say "AAWWW, malicious is gonna have little maliciouses runnin around" but then read that this was an infertile lay

I always get nervous around Laying time also. I had a horror story happen the first time I ever had a girl lay...I will get you the link after Sadie does her deed as not to add to your anxiety;). Just be ready to give the girl a drink and a bite to eat after all that work.

She'll get out once shes done and be the normal girl that she was......I've kept my girl in all night and she was fine

lol Jay im sure you wont read this till tomorrow morning but, I am willing to bet $100 you dreamed about chameleons last night.:D Hope she is doing good and im looking forward to hearing an update.

Remember she will need a little more water and a bit more calcium silkworms would be good for hydrating and the calcium.

I was a nervous wreck both times Lily laid - the second time I kept pacing around the house! As I was told before Lily laid - 'she knows what to do and she'll just get on with it!' They are amazing creatures! Hope she lays a nice small clutch for you, Jay! When Lily laid, the process took the whole day from start to finish - the most nervous twelve hours ever, lol!:D

Good morning Jay, when ever you get up. Sadie should be all finished and ready for her first cup of coffee - weak coffee- chams call it water!! Also give her a good breakfast, them report in to us. Call me as I will be away for the computer.

Also aren't you glad it won't be you giving birth to a human baby? See what we women go throught just to have you guys around?? Now show some appreciation for us.:D:D:D ( I know you already do);)

Well I finnally fell asleep around 2am, only to get up at 5am, to see how she was.

Turns out she was up in her tree sleeping like a baby.... And the three holes that she had dug were mearly test holes. I put 2 calcium dusted hornworms in her cage and added some time to the misting system to ensure she would have food and water if and when she is done with the whole process. I was and still am a nervous wreck though. Laurie called me this morning to see how she was doing and assured me that it was ok and these processes take time and its normal. We will just have to wait and see what she does while I am away again today.

I guess like any concerned parent you want things to go just perfectly..... I just love these kids like nobodies business.

I am at the shop now, and am in dire need of coffee.....:(

Jay, is the soil/laying medium damp enough for her? Just wondering, as when Lily laid her first clutch she was digging here and there and I watered the small plant that was in the laying bin and she was straight in there and got the job done the same day. They can be very fussy and this may just have been a coincidence.

For both clutches she had a choice of 2 laying bins. The first clutch she had one bin of sand and the other of soil, and she laid in the soil bin at the back if the cage. Her second clutch was the same 2 bins but both filled with soil/sand mix and she laid in the other bin at the front of the cage! Has Sadie got a choice of places to lay? Maybe she's not entirely happy with what you've provided or her? Just my thoughts...

Hope she drops them soon for you! I know just how nerve wracking it can be, lol!:D

Hahahaha. Sounds like she is going to play with your . If she isnt down there today then it might be a good time to make sure the laying bin is still suitable if its been in there for while.

Good luck.

The bin was refreshed this morning, and is a mixture of play sand and soil.

It is damp enough for me to dig a tunnel to the bottom of the pot 12" by hand, without a colapse. The bin seams just right now. I hope she does her business today while I'm at work. :)
