So I keep my Jackson chameleon in small guest house. It is basically one room with a door and 3 windows. Last several days it was really hot here in South Cal and the temp in the guest house was around 100 if not more . During the day I had the door of the house open and the huge industrial fan was moving the air outside to reduce the temperature. Today I came home and found that the door to the cage was opened and the chameleon was not in it. I look all over the guest house and surrounding plants outside and so far no luck in finding him. I think it is safe to assume he is gone. I do not know how the cage got opened. Nothing like that ever happened before. But non the less I fill very bad.

At this point I do not know what I am going to do, sell everything or get another chameleon.

Don't sell everything, look around the room in all places, i gaurentee you'll find him. Check EVERYWHERE. He will show up. I am sure of it. This used to happen all the time before with my vieled. Try putting his favorite plant in the middle of the room. He might see it and climb on to it. They might not, but its worth a try. Let us know how it goes.

Studies have shown that they don't range all that far, even over months. Keep looking. Go out at night with a flashlight when he'll be very lightly colored and probably towards the end of a branch. Good luck and keep looking! :)

You can take pictures of trees in the area at night and blow them up on the computer and you might see it there.

psst, thank you for the night tip. I never would have thought of that and it will be good to know if this happens to me.

I'm so sorry for your loss, astroprojector. Is it possible he was stolen? Very strange that his cage door would be opened, suspicious if you ask me. I'd watch Craig's list in your area to see if someone tries to sell one within the next two weeks or so. It happens around here with pets. They are stolen and sold.

Definitely check every nook and cranny and in the end I would consider adopting one. Perhaps you can give a home to one that has to be given up? Or adopt one from a reptile rescue?

I though of that. However, I also store some electric tools in that house. I would think if anyone who might still the chameleon would also still the tools. Also I keep the gates to the backyard locked at all times.

Keep looking....don't give up, they are sneaky buggers!

I am in Socal, if you need any help looking let me know. Good luck :)

Good luck finding him!
I'm sure he couldn't have gone far!
Prolly just up the closest tree.
I've had my cage door open on me, strange as it sounds.
When I came home pedro was clear in the other room staring out the glass sliding door!!
