I have a 18x18x36 screen cage. I bought a 150w heat emmiter, and a 150w sun glo, and a 26w uvb swirly bulb. Is this correct for housing a veiled?

Also I bought some spanish moss at home depot. They are real... Is this safe for the chameleon? It should be since green moss is ok correct? I just have to watch out if it gets molded..

Okay... you have some adjustments to make.

I have a 18x18x36 screen cage

This size cage might do good for a baby or Juvie... But an adult male Veiled is going to need more space... A 4'x2'x2' screen enclosure is recomended.

I bought a 150w heat emmiter, and a 150w sun glo, and a 26w uvb swirly bulb.

This is over kill for the heating. Depending on the ambient temps in the room you are keeping him (should be around 75-80') All you really need is a dome fixture with a regular 60w house bulb, This tends to generate enough heat to bring their basking spot to around 90'. This is all important but this next part especially... Ditch the "swirly UV" bulb... also called a Compact Coil Fluorecent... This have been found to emit levels of UV that are to intense for a lot of herps and will give them eye issues over a period of time. You want to use a tube style Fluorecent bulb like a Reptisun 5.0 .

Also I bought some spanish moss at home depot. They are real... Is this safe for the chameleon? It should be since green moss is ok correct? I just have to watch out if it gets molded.

Veiled's are known to like to munch on any foliage, or for that fact anything that is loose and able to be munched that they can find(Dirt, pebbles, bark, leaves), While some brand name products will tell you that they are safe to ingest, And some will even tell you they are good for the animal, but the fact is that you want to avoid your Cham eating anything except for the food you offer him and maybe the occasional Greens, or safe plants. This is why experienced keepers will warn you against keeping any kind of substrate including moss, as it is a risk of impaction. It is a lot easier to keep things clean and sanitary if you monitor the humidity by regularly misting the plants in the enclosure.

Hope that helps, Good luck, and keep doing your research.. it will save you a lot of headache.

Thanks for the reply.. Can I get an adult female in a 18x18x36? I bought a pair and two cages.. same size.. I was planning to upgrade to that size you recommend when my male is mature. Also should I save teh 150w sun glo for that bigger cage? My veileds are coming in this wed coming up and cage should be in tomorrow.. So i have couple of days to set it up. Don't I need anything that produce UVA also.. like that sun glo daylight lamp.

For heat I bought a heat wave lamp ceramic heat emitter.
I also have a dimmer switch so maybe I can lower the heat level.
I bought a uvb fluorescent light mercury vapor bulb- zoo med 18" repti sun 5.0

Interior. Ficus plant. I have fake spanish moss and other fake branches etc.

Water dripper of coarse..

I have a electric themostat somewhere I gotta find it.

Bought those reptile green floor matt.

The chameleon will be in my room, doors will be close when I'm not around. It gets fairly cold at night because I live downstairs next to a garage. San Francisco weather gets cold from time to time.

I can't believe Im getting bad information from this lady at the local pet store.. I would thought a 150watt heat lamp would be too much!! She's been workin there for years!! She suppose to be a reptile specialist but something wasn't right so I had to seek elsewhere to confirm her suggestions.

Thank You!!
