If the drill bit for the hole in the bucket isn't a spaded one will it make a difference? Jared says no, and he's the tool man but I don't want to mess up my bucket!!!


Also.. how often to mist with the mistking so that drainage system isn't pertinent??

A spade isnt needed. However go SLOW with ZERO pressure. A normal bit will tear the bucket if you go to fast and it catches. When in doubt, Drill in reverse with a regular tip on plastic. its an old plexiglass trick for an ultra smooth clear hole.

As for drainage. If you are running under 10min total aday you can get away with just a catch tray and a small fan to evaporate it. Anylonger and you will have trouble getting rid of that 1/4-1/3 of a gallon.

I have a Habba mist I have set every 3 hours for 15 seconds and it seems to be a perfect setting for my Cham..i used to have every hour for 15 secs ..that was too much..he is doing great with this schedule..

Unless you have a glass tank the room temp/humidity should be the same as the cage. And im talking a small fan. Im running a 12v pc fan at 5v so its just enough to make a piece of tissue paper wave, and it drys out a 5min soak in about 2 hours at 45% humidity in a all screen cage, and the fan is on the outside of the cage.

I'm thinking about planting in the cage (organic soil) with huge marbles covering the dirt! I think it would work out well.

Dont plant the cage. keep the plants in pot or buckets, you can cover with marble as you planned.

Planting in containers allows you more flexibility if a problem does occur. Soil may have to be changed for various reasons, or you may have to change out a plant that is not doing well, or doing too well . Containers allow for easy access for cleaning the enclosure. This will be a nightmare unless you have a system that uses waste as fertilizer. I wouldn't recommend this unless you have plenty of time to get it right! It is more difficult to maintain humidity levels if you have more dirt holding more moisture.

That makes sense! His plants are turning yellow tho?! are they not getting enough water? Also do you know where I can get a 15W grow light? Lowes tried to cook Kuzco and blew me off cuz I'm a girl (our Lowes is notorious for that )

I got a plastic try made for the cham cage, they sell them on LLLreptile.com and they fit perfectly and catch the water underneath. Then, I drilled a hole in the tray, put a bulkhead that I bought from mistking and attached a tubing to the bulkhead that goes into a bucket underneath the cabinet that the cage sits on. I made some small holes in the removable bottom of the cage and it just all drains through there. I just clean it out every week when I clean my cham's cage since there is some water that sits in the tray. I know you said you didn't want to have a drainage, but just in case you change your mind
