Ryker's eye

His right eye which was closing a lot and staying closed is now closing less. It seems he needed vitamin A as he now seems to have absorbed the shot and he just now got the powdered form again since I stopped it. It surprised me how quickly he deteriorated. However I have also decided to give my Jackson the powdered form. I will only give it once a month as per suggested and only half her feeders will get dusted, I am hoping that will stop the gulag edema from happening. Also the liquid calcium seems to be helping rather quickly, he is already dangling his legs far less. I have only caught him doing it once this past week. I think we caught it before it got too bad. I would just like to know how it happened. The only thing I can think it is, is that occasionally I am a month or so late updating his light. But he always get at least one day a week outside I'd the weather permits it. Which it usually does. And he usually stays out those days for 2 hours or more. He has an outdoor cage. I always dust according to schedule. Sometimes skipping a plain calcium day but never more than once a week. And he has well fed feeders... and a balanced diet with multiple feeders at a time. He's never been picky when it comes to feeding. Could parasites have caused the calcium in his food not to be absorbed right? That doesn't sound right to me... is there anything I did wrong other than his uvb lights?

I took Ryker outside yesterday and left him in his cage for three hours. The shade and weather was nice enough I could do so. I misted him once while he was out there. After I brought him back in, he had been resting his legs that day, it seemed like he felt better. No resting of his legs and very active. I will be taking him outside as much as I can until I go back to work. Hopefully it will help.

I didn't realize how much a good dose of regular UVB would help. I have been giving him liquid calcium too, so with both of those working together hopefully I can get him where he needs to be by next week. Which is when I am headed back to work.

I am worried again. He seems to be worse today. His eye seems to be bugging him more and he's resting his legs more. The weather isn't warm enough to take him outside and I am contemplating taking him into the shower to get his eye rinsed out and see if it will help at all. He seems less interested in food than usual, but I'm not sure if that's just because he ate a lot yesterday .___. I'm concerned. Is it possible that there is something else wrong with him? Even though the liquid calcium does seem to help? Though I'm not sure.

Edit: Just took some saline and one of the longer tipped oral syringes and washed his eye out a bit, and though he's very mad at me at the moment, I am hoping it helps.

So I don't know why but Ryker's eye did much better today, he kept it open the entire day, no resting of the legs. He got his liquid calcium, he hasn't been able to go outside at all these past two days. I'm hoping for some good weather soon. My gorgeous boy is making me worried very worried but I haven't made a vet appointment yet because he keeps going up and down. I think I will make it for sure when I need more liquid calcium. The liquid calcium should not be usable by next month, but I suspect I will be out before then. The swelling in his back forelimbs has gone down a lot. He seems less tender around that area too. I am excited for this turn around. Hopeful too.

So I've been catching Ryker sleeping for the last two days during the day time. However it's been rather dark in his cage since I put in the halogen bulb. I am switching it for the 60 watt normal bulb again and hoping it stops the sleepiness, if it does not I will be making a vet appointment. His feces no longer smells like it has parasites in it. He's gaining weight again and is back at his normal 215-225 grams. Yet he's still not acting like Ryker. I am worried he's getting worse with something I don't understand, and yet I sometimes he bounces back and acts like himself again. I don't know what to do. When I get paid I will most likely make a vet appointment because he is not making enough of a change that I feel he is getting better. I hope so much he's ok.

So update, when I switched out the halogen bulb it also seemed to help his eye. Has anyone ever had halogen problems with cham eyes? He's no longer squinting or sleeping through out the day. I am hoping this will continue.

I'm glad he's doing better. I think lights in general can bother their eyes.

He seems to be doing better with keeping his eye open, but I don't know if he can see well out of it. He doesn't seem to notice prey with that eye at all. Not even his favorite feeders such as silkworms.... is there anyway to tell for sure?

Edit: Actually he is tracking with that eye, just not well. He also doesn't want to eat from my fingers, which I think is just because I have to medicate him every day. I will have to gain his trust back when I am sure he's safe from the MBD issues.

mine is
going through MBD issues, irritated eyes, guitar edema, and won't hardly eat or drink. Took him to the vet the other day. Yesterday he was seeming to do better. Today, nope. Trying not to worry. He was on some parasite meds(never even was tested for them) but it was just in case. So I think that may have something to do why he seems increasingly uninterested in eating or drinking. I've had to force feed him a carnivore powder diet food. It's just lovely

He is sensitive to artificial lighting.I actually took out his uvb light for several weeks in order to get his eyes back to normal. He was taken outside daily to get uvb during early morning when the sun was less bright. Is he still on the parasite meds? What did the vet do?

He got his last dose today. The vet couldn't really do anything because he is so tiny. Weighs 4 grams at 4 months

I ran a humidifier in his cage today and it seemed to have made the swelling in his neck go down. Mine has been scratching his eyes a lot lately. Including my finger.

She couldn't take blood, or give shots. He is too little she said. And I had no fecal matter to run tests on. She sai he showed signs of MBD because of a slight loss of use in his back legs. He wables a lot. His legs look to be in great condition to me. But I was reading that Vit A def can lead to signs of MBD like this because of muscle loss. But since no test were done and an expensive vet bill later, I can do nothing but increase humidity and suplimet way better. I was only supplementing twice a week and he was still only eat a big or two a day

She said she had never seen a reptile with a swollen neck... I know I was unlucky when she said that. But there are not any reptile specialists near me and I don't have the money right now to do more vet bills.the first was close to 100 to get some special carnivore food and some medicine that was a complete whim

He freaks out when his mist king goes off on him....so I was afraid to try it
