Rot?

Mouth rot is an infection. Some of the bacteria that chameleons can get can also live in humans, but good hygiene should prevent it from happening.

I have a new senegal chameleon and was wondering what is rot in the mouth? Is it dangerous or contagious to humans?

I am not sure, but just in case wash your hands after handling your chameleon. Have you noticed something on your chameleon's mouth? If you post some pictures maybe someone here could tell.

Maybe a better pic of the mouth would help. The front looks like it could have a mild mouth rot or a bruise of some sort, or just misshaped a little, or just dirt or something like that. Hard to see in those pics though.

Keep an eye out for some symptoms of mouth rot such as loss of appetite, swelling of lips, skin discoloration and white mold chunks in oral mucous.
