Ok, This post is for those that have to leave their Chameleons for a few days at a time. There was a post earlier from "RACHELK" asking about leaving for a few days and wanted a way to get by without a Misting System.
So was looking for a way to efficiently water their already Drip Cup trained Chameleon. This would water for a couple days. for 1 or 2 Chams.
I'm gonna post some pic's of somthing that works fullproof and I put it togather in my Garage in seconds to show a simple way to accomplish several dripping fills each day over several days. You can use your imagination and set one custom for yourself. These pic's are to give you the idea.
All this can be done for less that $50 dollars in parts and your time?

Ok, Picture #1 Shows a digital timer that was purchased at walmart for 12 dollars. and can turn on and off 6 times in one day. for this instructional. We will turn on/off for 2 times at 2 minutes each time. (or depending on how long or less it takes to fill your dripper?) Also pictured in that pic is a 2 gallon container you can use as an Idea for a container for your pump to be placed in.

Picture # 2 shows the Demonstration setup. Your dripper container, (the red one there), the Pump cantainer, (I used a clear one for this demo so you can see the pump in there), And Also a dripper adjustment tip & clear aquatics tubing, so you can control the speed the cup is filled.( the timer used here only goes to a minimum of 1 minute, so you can adjust the control to allow the drip cup to fill in any time longer that 1 minute. but dont do this so slow it puts uneeded strain on your pump.) The pump was purchased at a pet store for 18 dollars. the rest of the parts are probubly within 10 dollars total.

Picture #3 shows in this setup, that I filled the dripper to 4 and 1/2 inches in 2 minutes with a fairly wide open setting on the adjusting tip. (so my timer in this demo filled the cup to an adaquite leval in 2 minutes allowed by the timer.) Set this for 2 to 3 running applications per day? and your dripper practically could drip most the day!

Lastly and not pictured here would be your catch suficient enough to catch several days of drained water.

Ok desided to post another Pic of a way to drip into a plant, then out its catch into your waist cantainer & out of the cage.

This is my demo So dont mind this quick setup. I put this togather quickly in my garage also just to give you the Idea. So the last picture demanstrates a dripper going into the plant soil, then into the plants containment base. Drill a hole big enough for some more aquarium tubing in the midway point of the plant catch plate rim. Then run the tube out of your cage into a large enough waist container for several days of your dripper running. and thats it!

That is a really awesome idea! Good job, I might just have to do this... Thanks for this post Titan!

No prob. I feel sometimes small little ideas for US PEOPLE that are away from home at times and still love our Chams. Something like this if setup appealing could work for people that go to school or work long hours, Is simple and Cheep?

Would the pump burn up if the water container completely ran out before you could refill it?

Edit: Also, would the pump in the water container need to be set up above the cham cage? or could it sit lower? and the tubing you bought, did it come with that nozzle?

Well figure out how many cup fillings It will take for the amount of days gone and make sure your pump container holds more than that in water for that duration. Do this by filling the drip cup 2 to three (pending on how many fills per day you use,) and pour into your pump container how ever many times it will fill the cup in all the days gone. Then make sure you have a pump container abit larger than that. But also Make sure your waist container is larger than your Pump cantainer.

I would set this all up on top the cage. that level of pump cant pump up to far. The nozzle I got at a pet store. but may not be needed. you just dont want to fill the drip cup in less than the minimum timer setting of one minute. or you will have overflow. so the control valve will control all that better.

If your anything like me definatley test run it for a week to get the kinks out but that looks sweet.

If you had that old waterfall we all first started with LOL that pump would work well

Mike,

EXCELLENT POST! You should get a green flag baby! As you test this out, I would like to see further posts on what you found needed tweaking.:D:D

Well, thanks Nick! Its already fullproof I have allot nicer one setup in one of my freeranges. But for demonstration purpose, this was easier to post working pictures. I set this up quicky for a tutorial and to get the Idea out there for those that need and could use this application, as to Unbind themselves at least for couple days without worry on leaving your Cham at home. It Just takes some tweeking from each individual that sets one up, due to different parts and materials used by each. I do recomend the control valve of some sort so you can control the rate of flow from pump and within your timer settings. Plan to have the dripper 1/2 to 3/4 full on testing so there is no chance of overflow when your gone> and of course keep your parts clean and flowing well.

And YES! Lanceman, Perfect application to get the use out of that pump that came with all the waterfalls I KNOW YOU ALL HAVE BOUGHT once upon a time!!:D:D:D
