RI's and Eye Issues

I've noticed since Pascal has RI (day 3 of medication so far ) his eyes seem to be shut a lot. Variation of 1 eye or both. It seems to get better day by day but I wonder if the RI could have anything to do with it ? His humidity is at a steady 70-80 and he is fully hydrated.

I think that is kinda high for a constant humidity. You should have rise and falls from what I understand. Too high of humidity is a incubator for bacteria.

oh ok. I just know that real high humidity can be just as harmful as humidity that is too low. That should be good and I do not really have an answer for your original question. I know when chameleons are ill they will sometimes close their eyes. It does not necessarily mean they have an eye issue but just that they are sick.

It seems that veiled chameleons can tolerate a lot lower humidity than other chams such as panthers. They are from Yemen where especially in the northern and eastern regions are very very dry. The northern area is bordered by Saudi Arabia. Of course parts of the country have some more humid regions with an average of 35 percent humidity. That being said, the chameleons will likely be use to humidity that drops easily into the teens and obviously goes up to the fifties and into the seventies at rare but rainy times. Also, the little guy may benefit from a slightly less humid environment right now since he has the RI right now. I think someone may have stated previously that higher humidities are a breeding ground for bacteria and may be one cause leading to RI. Im not sure about the last part, but that is what I have read through research. I hope someone can correct me about that if i may have wrong information about the drier needs of a cham with an upper respiratory infection.

Yes it's good for humidity to spike and fall during the day. While on antibiotics try to increase his water intake as they can be hard on the kidneys.:)
