Yes, interesting read! But I wonder how heat associated with light plays in to color change? We know that chams darken while absorbing heat from a basking spot and lighten when they are overheated...so is the intense light the initial trigger only or does the heat from the light source (ie heat spot or the sun) have as much effect on color change?

I suppose a test using intense light that emits no noticeable heat might show something.
 
"animals with optic nerves cut..." :( I wonder if they could have used an opaque (black) wax or something to close the eyeball and cover the turret instead of something permanent like that.

I hope that for the blind chameleons, they just blindfolded them.
