Resting eyes?

Hey guys Ive got a question do chameleons rest their eyes sometimes? My cham has been closing her eyes a bit yesterday and today. She isnt sleeping i dont think because when i move or something her eyes open immediately. And she doesnt take on the really light colour she does when shes sleeping. Ive just noticed right now actually that she only had her left eye closed and her right eye open, her left eye is on the side where the basking light is so i dunno if shes closing her eye because of the light or what. Any help would be awesome! thanks in advance :D

Yes, they can...

Yes, they can "rest" thier eyes... sleeping is a bad sign and Chams should not sleep during the day however they can "rest" thier eyes but they should immediatley open them if you go up to them or there is any type of disturbance and from what you said she does open them immediatley... so I think you are fine.. but you can keep an eye on her for any other changes to be safe.....

All your husbandry sure seems good. Could your cham maybe have irritated the eye in some way, maybe poked it with something perhaps?. It doesn't appear that anything in your set up should be causing it. Like Gensen said, just keep your eye on her eye! Hopefully, all is well!

It may just be from moving her around, i had to move her away from the window since its getting alot colder, we just got brand new windows put in that help keep the cold out and what not but id rather not risk it. She didnt move very far but it might have something to do with it.

my little guy does the exact same thing and ive wondered about it as well but he always opens them right up as soon as there is any movement around him. and ive looked really close at his eyes and they look really good acctually pretty cool kinda gives him more personallity when i can see his acctuall pupils up close LoL

They should not be closing their eyes for a longer period of time. It does not matter if it is 'sleeping.' Closing their eyes is similar to us wincing in pain. Have you tried showering her or using a saline solution to rinse her eyes out? If it continues after a good eye cleaning I would be concerned.

Ill see how she is for a while and if after a couple of days i will try to give her a shower and see if that helps

Is it closing its eyes more at a particular time of day? more towards evening, for example.

Its not generally normal for them to close their eyes during the day. A few seconds perhaps, but not more than that.

The one eye open, one eye closed thing is always tricky...It's really an argument in favor of positioning the cage so you can get a 360 view.
