I picked up a China Cabinet off of Craigslist to repurpose into a vivarium. Here is my progress so far.
- Stripped all glass and hardware.
-Removed board backing and reinforced with birch.
-Added a flat piece of birch to mount casters.
-Prepped and sanded laminate.
-Cut the sides and top for screen.
-Primed, painted, and sealed with outdoor paint that's mold/mildew resistant.
-Cut a drainage hold for funnel fitment.
-Installed screen on top and sides.
-Used foam on back and sides while also embedding ghostwood for perches.
I still need to screen the front doors and I'll be covering the foam in brown silicone then adding a mix of coconut fiber, jungle mix, and spigham moss. After the walls are done I'm using 5 Tillandsia air plants for decoration as well as installing mini pothos on the branches and running faux vines throughout. The lower cabinet will house two 5 gallon buckets; one for my mistking system and one for drainage.
The original cabinet was cheap particle board with laminate, but the measures I've taken should make it bulletproof, or at least waterproof.
