Repti Bark Allergy

Yes, I finally found out what I was allergic to! I'd get these weird ITCHY bumps on my hands ALL the time and is something that had never happened before. Once I started getting into reptiles is when it started... I keep my snakes and geckos on Repti Bark and every time i'd handle them or touch the Repti Bark i'd break out on my hands. I never caught onto it and after a year of wondering I finally figured it out. I hadn't handled my critters for quite some time. I dropped some Repti Bark on our carpet one night and thought "Meh, i'll pick it up tomorrow morning." (we don't have a vacuum) So the next morning when I went into our closet to clean the mess I used my hands to scooop it up into a bag and a few minutes later I broke out again. I had posted a thread a few months ago asking if anyone was allergic to reptiworms (I think) since I was feeding those and noticed the breakouts, NOW I know what it is or at least I think that is it, lol! Anyone else allergic to any of their pets or pet products, feeders?

I have the same problem! It seems whenever I clean out the Chameleon cages and gecko enclosure, I break out a little bit on my hands, I don't know from what either. Maybe the supplements? not really sure.

It's not the same, but when I hold the chameleons I get little red bumps everywhere. It's from their nails though... Just some food for thought for anyone who gets the bumps when they hold them.

I get more of scratches on my arms. Their nails are very sharp and they tear up my arm.

My male veiled tears up my arm on the rare occation when I hold him. It looks like I got in a fight with a cat, and the cat won. He likes to hold on with only two feet and reach up into the air with his front ones, but he's so heavy that he just slides down my skin and almost flops to the ground before he can get a hold on me!

I'm not sure either and the thing is that I break out on the palms of my hands including my finger, bottom part and between them. It SUCKS! If you've ever had an itchy palm you know what I mean. It's so hard to get a good scratch.

I don't think i've ever gotten those but then again I don't really handle my Chams. I'll have to pay closer attention next time.

I hate repti-bark anyway. It stinks and is sooooo dusty!

Maybe I haven't noticed it but I don't think it smells... I make sure and remove droppings so that it doesn't soak into the bark when I mist. Cham poop REALLY smells if you let it soak in water. YUCK!
