Replacing UVB and basking light bulbs

I have read these should be replaced every six months as they start to lose their effectiveness. Would keeping them nine months to a year be okay?

Also, these bulbs are a bit pricy in my local pet stores. Any alternatives or cheaper places to look for them???

Thanks a bunch :D

Unless you have a UV meter and know for sure, it's best to assume that
your bulbs need to be replaced after 6 months if using 5%.

If you have a Amazon Prime membership, you should be able to get them there and not pay as much as a pet store.

As far as I know the basking bulbs can be used til they blow out. They are still effective as long as they are shining and you can use a white housebulb for that. The uvb is a different story.

They are a lot cheaper on Amazon, thanks :)

I'm using a 100 watt basking bulb dimmed slightly to get a 85° basking spot. Would a regular 100 watt bulb get me the same temps?
