Renting and animals

So I'm looking for a new place, out of the city where I see cops outside my house everyday, to the woods. Plus my place now is falling apart and has mold issues that my landlord does nothing about. It's not safe for babies or my girlfriend... the one good thing is I'm allowed to do whatever I want because I haven't seen the landlord in the 3 years I've been here. Sooo idk how to approach telling new places I have 5 reptiles, one of them needing a small sized shed, and 3 cats. Along with all of the bugs. With the intention of breeding and adding to my collection! I figured I'd meet them in person before mentioning, we are great tenants; pay on time, are clean, don't break things, easy going, and have never had trouble getting along with people around. But I can imagine people are judgemental with this kind of stuff, I have a feeling I'm going to get pissed about all the ignorant concerns.

Do you guys find that landlords have issues with this kind of stuff often? TBH I'm not even mentioning roaches.

What she said about the roaches. Before I owned my own home, I rented a few different places. While all the landlords were a tad reluctant about my snakes, the words "roach colony" would have been a deal breaker! Good luck James!

These stories are awful. I have been renting a 2 bedroom apartment, the all of us live here, 2 Chameleons 2 large dogs and more reptiles to come.

Landlord knows about everything without an issue, if you have good bins, no smell, and show that you are more involved than the owner of the shithead dog and bird down the hall, you will have NO problem with renting successfully.

There is allot tighter and watchful eyes but do things right and you will prevail a better keeper.

Found a cool place, they seemed okay with a cat... and I mentioned a chameleon and they were iffy, but said it has to be contained to 1 room. She didn't wanna walk in and see cages in every room... is that really a world any of us want to live in, where we can't choose to have a Cham cage in every room!? SMH

I have a 5 bedroom home and get crap because I have different kind of creatures needing different temps, lighting, etc! I just smile at hubby and put them where I want them. But I do keep all 5 kinds of roaches downstairs.

Hahaha my GF is more easy going with the non-terrifying animals. I've eased up(for now) on my tegu obsession and agreed to no snakes, so she's okay with the chameleons. The landlord was the one that said she didn't want a bunch of cages, don't see why they care as long as the place isn't ruined, who cares what it looks like. That's my family's business.

Makes sense to me!

Yeah that's messed up. Especially since a cat is waaaay more likely to damage a place than a chameleon. Its just that weird fear caused by lack of knowledge. I guess if it was me I'd try and find a place that wasn't gonna try and regulate where I place my pets.

Yeah agreed. I know people are entitled to their own likes/dislikes, but it's hard to respect those that judge and fear things simply because it is different... ohhh humans, never cease to be dull and close-minded.

I could never rent a place where the landlord controls how I decorate the house.

So I'm moving in a week, but my landlord(slumlord old man) is already showing the house while I live here. I read that this is legal, but it's hugely not okay with me. Not sure what he'll say when he sees my chameleon room...

Well I have no where to live for a week if he made me move them. you're right though, I'm just not okay with people I don't know looking through my place.
