I am just about to buy a pain of ambanjas and i have ask of a pair that i can breed. he is going to give me a brother and sister ambanjas to breed and he says this is fine to do, but he said you can only breed there ofspring back to the parents once is this true.
thanks a lot.

i wouldnt do it. Im pretty sure the same rule applies to two humans having a kid. I dont think it would turn out so well

It can be done and you may get animals that are free of visual defects and even achive certain line bread trates this way. It is done with a number of types of reptiles where breeders are attempting to produce a specific looking animal.

It can be done in chameleons and I am willing to bet it is done more than people will admit. Personally I don't see a reason to line breed chameleons. Therefore I don't. There is always the potentail for problems breeding siblings to siblings , etc. There is a reason humans do not mix with family and not just because its gross. LOL :D

Its possible, but in my opinion not worth it. You may get "some" predictably good looking animals but you also may get an increase in defective genetics.

Short tongue
Dud breeders

I forgot which breeder it was actually admitted line breeding a bit.

Im with you Red, & Ryan. I wont do it. I know it can be done and it is done by some but I'm not going to do it personally. Maybe in a sp. thats hard to acquire on a consistent basis but not with anything as common as a panther, veiled, jacksons, carpet...

Line breeding, when done carefully by experienced breeders, can be beneficial. I think this guy is trying to make a buck off of you because he doesn't have anything unrelated to sell you, or, he really believes what he's saying. The latter worries me more than the former. IMO, I'd look for someone else.

So I dont have to make another thread
can pygmies inter breed with them selves or is it the same thing?
Cuz some times I see that pairs are sold online and I kinda assume maybe they might be related and if they were could they breed together and have no weird offspring
or do they like KNOW not to bread together?

99.99999999999% of the time the pygs you see for sale are Wild Caught and the chances of them being related is there but slim.

The same rules apply for all reptiles. Probably shouldn't be done but it happens in the wild too so who knows. I think the problem tends to be compounded when multiple generations are inbred.

In reality, the first generation resulting from human inbreeding has virtually no higher risk of any congenital medical problems than that of non-related parents, even when it's between siblings. It's when the inbreeding occurs over a coarse of several generations that problems start to arise. The offspring of two chameleons that are siblings have just about the same chance of being perfectly healthy as the offspring of non-related parents. It's when you continue to breed closely related animals generation after generation that you start seeing increases in the rates of congenital defects like you see with certain breeds of dogs.
