I just collected 2 pairs of reef geckos (sphaerodactylus notatus notatus) and was wondering if anybody out there has any and could give me tips on housing. There so tiny they get out of about everything. I kept them in a small critter keeper for about a half day before i noticed one hanging out on top of the lid. Now im keeping them in a 1 gallon jar with screen tied around the top. I have all sorts of tanks and cages but the lids all have holes somewhere on them that will allow them to escape. Is there something I could buy or make? Also will these guys munch fruit like other day geckos? THaNk YoU

Wow, these guys are tiny even as adults. A google search indicates they are indig. to your area (FL), active during low light (dusk), eat small insects. Aparently they are not threatened outside of loss of habitat due to human encroachment -- something we big critters are way guilty of. Nice catch, don't take it the wrong way... I advocate keeping native species prolifically stable and free. That means being dilegent in our impact on the environment we inahabit. Best to you. If you really want to keep them captive, I recommend screen mesh. Like rodents (and snakes), if they can get their head through, the rest will follow. Termites, ants, springtails, fruitflies, and pinheads are probably you best bet. Good luck.

I was looking for ashys but found these instead. also there is debate wether or not they are really native to florida. I know the general care still looking for tips. Thanks

'kay, sorry, couldn't give you tips on keeping as they are novel to me but sounds like you are well on your way.
