Red LED for plant growth

I know that the red infrared heat lamps are unnecessary for chams based on the inability to perceive the light in relation to it being a heat source, but I wouldn't think that the red spectrum of grow light would have any ill effects on a chams eyes. I'll be interested to see what others have to say about this. Red is a natural spectrum of sunlight, so I would think that this mixed with the bright whites of your led would be okay. I personally utilize the red spectrum in both my planted aquariums and greenhouse. It's a nice long wavelength perfect for autotrophs. Let's see what other members think about its effects on heterotrophs.

I have a bunch of those ZooMed banks of LED plus UVB lights. The longest is relegated to the stick bug enclosure. That should make it obvious about what I think of those lights.
Get yourself an Arcadia 12% with a 6.5K daylight bulb. Or, if you have plants, get the quad--one UVB, two 6.5 daylight and one plant-grow bulb. The difference between a ZooMed bank of lights and an Arcadia is, well, the difference between night and day. The Arcadia lights--both the UVB and the daylight--penetrate deeper and are brighter than the ZooMed lights.

I use the SunBlaze 4 Lamp Fixtures mixing the spectrum of lighting as I see fit in my greenhouse. I also use the SunBlaze 4 Lamp Fixtures on my free range setups for my Melleri. jajeanpierre is correct about the ZooMed v Arcadia. I'm not sure about the specs for penetration on the ZooMed. I have never used them for reptile use. I do use the Jungle Dawn LEDS for some of my Montane species enclosures and they work great!

I have the same fixture as the original poster, albeit the 24" version. I'm curious about the positive/negative effects of the Red plant growth LEDs as well. Hopefully, someone responds to the actual question asked (by the original poster) with something other than "buy an Arcadia".

I have the 24" one as well. While I don't have my cham yet, from what I've read, having the red LEDs on while the rest of the lights are on shouldn't be an issue. Just make sure they are on a 12 hour on/off cycle.
Since I paid about $100 for the light setup, I'll be using it until I get my adult cage then will probably consider lightyourreptiles. Or switching the uvb bulb to Arcadia..
