The bean is eating, drinking and pooping just fine. I'm also seeing less of the yawning/gaping already. I only started seeing her doing it Friday morning, and we had antibiotics by the afternoon so I'm not terribly worried about the uri. But of course I have a million questions! I'll start with a video of her getting meds this morning...
I have some experience with iguanas getting meds and chams have a similar esophageal opening, so I know to be sure that they go in her mouth far enough back to avoid aspiration.
I'm trying to avoid stress in any form! She gets her meds when the lights come on and I give her breakfast and that upsets her but that's just about the only interactions right now. I hover and watch her from a distance and spray her cage gently so she doesnt get soaked, she gets a few drips but most are indirect. I'mean feeding smaller amounts daily, she's eating quite a few horn worms and BSFL. I throw in dubia but they go largely untouched. I have getting the calcium levels up at the absolute highest priority, we might have to deal with a chubby, picky eater after she recovers fully but I don't think that is anything we can't handle. Showers, yes or no? I haven't given her one lately because I feel like the cons outweigh the pros. I am avoiding stress at all costs, and getting her out of her cage is tricky. Normally I wouldn't mind but her bones are so fragile I'm afraid that handling her could cause a break. Particularly because of the osteoarthritis in her ankles, a break would be devastating. Can I replace the showers with warm water misting 3 or 4 times a day? Is the risk of breaks worth getting her into the shower?
