Recognizing UVB Rays....

I have a question. I was wondering if lizards or in this case chameleons recognize UVB fluorescent rays when they're inside their enclosures? I've noticed a few times lately that my baby veiled will hang upside down on the screen right underneath the UVB bulb. So I was wondering if Chameleons feel the UVB light too like us humans when we go to tanning booths?

Hi! I believe they do and that they can regulate how much they get by moving around the enclosure. That's one of the reasons it's important to provide lots of places to hang out (full basking light, partial shade, full shade) so they can make sure they are getting what they need.

Hey! Thanks for the information. That's what I thought he was doing, but wasn't quite sure.

Chameleons will self-regulate their UVB given the opportunity (available light and ability to move away from it).

I'm uncertain about chameleons, but many (maybe most?) diurnal lizards can see colors in the UV spectrum (insects can as well- like bees). So things lit up under UV light look different to those lizards.
