Rearing and Breeding hornworms

Success! Now with another question.

They finally came out of their pupa!:D my question is how do i collect the eggs with out them getting out? Is there a method you use so they don't fly out? Sorry for all the questions i have asked, i just want to do it right.

They are nocturnal so collect the eggs during the day. They sleep hard during the day and really won't fly. You can even move them and they won't do much.

I fed a moth to Ivy this morning and she angled it perfectly to spritz the dining table and my laptop. Skill...

Last question, hopefully:rolleyes:, how long until they lay eggs? I have a tomato plant in their cage. i don't see them eat or fly at night. Maybe they fly at 2 am? Idk.

It can take them a couple of days to get moving. After a couple days they will start to eat and breed. You will find eggs pretty quickly after that. I get eggs anytime between 2-4 days after they hatch.

Thanks again, i really appreciate the help:) i am going to read your blog over again, just to make sure i will do things correctly.

still waiting on the moths to emerge.... it has been almost 6 weeks!!! One has died on me but the other 11 are still wiggling around :D

Im still waiting.... They are still moving but nothing has emerged yet :( i keep them in my reptile room and it is between 80 and 85 degrees. I'm not sure what is wrong. I have them I'm a container with peat moss in the bottom for moisture and paper towels on top so they don't suit directly in the wet peat

Should i add a uvb light directly on them fora certain # of hours? Right now they just get the light from the other cages and the windows

I haven't ever put lights on them. Not sure what is taking them so long. I had some take an extra long time, about 5 weeks, but they came out eventually.
