Ready for Eggs???

Hey Guys,

Just a quick update...

Luna is doing well with her MBD and is coming on lovely. She is very happy and very friendly and nosey.

We have a slight problem, Yesterday Luna started like exploring but normally she stays at the top of the enclosure but she started exploring down the bottom and the back of the enclosure. Like she was looking for something. She has got a big belly and we have supplied her with a sand pit (will be making this bigger today or tommorrow). She is still like flat by her actual back egg but her belly is big. Could she be due to lay?

I have covered up the tank so she can not see anyone. and she is still eating.

any advice??

What colours would she be showing. She does occassionally turn like a brown colour but not all the time but has been doing more in her enclosure

How old is she? She maybe receptive - Lily used to roam her cage looking for a male when she was receptive. Her colouring will be something like this:

When receptive they show the yellow/brown/gold splodges and bright blue spots. Lily was actually gravid in this photo but her colouring never changed to the classic black with yellow and blue spots. She always had these colours, but they were brighter when she was receptive and gravid. The only time I caught a glimpse of the really dark gravid colours was when I sneaked a peek in the cage as she was laying.

Well we dont actually no her actual age. We possibly think she is around 8-9 months. Its been the last 2 days she been exploring and as if she is looking for something. She is normal in herself, hasn't been closing her eyes or anything. Eating and Pooping fine and well hydrated!!

Have you got any recent pics of her? Also it may help to give her the choice of more than one container if you have room. Lily had two in her cage when she was due to lay, one a sand and soil mix and the other plain sand. Just make sure that you keep an eye on the dampness of the laying substrate. It can easily dry out on the top due to the cage lighting/heating.

I will try and get a recent pic of my OH phone later. She has a full belly, I have tried to see if you can see egg like shapes but nothing. Unfortuantely she doesn't have room for two. We are upgrading the size of the current pit which had just plain playsand in it.

I am not overally concerned but obviously would like to be prepared. She began climbing toward sthe bottom yesterday so I covered all her tank yesterday so she cant see out. Vents are at the top!!

The usual place to see and feel the eggs is just above their back legs when they are resting. You don't normally see them bulging out of their sides unless there are other problems with the cham - the only pics I've seen of eggs bulging out of the sides were of really sick and dehydrated chams.

I could see and feel Lily's about a week to 10 days before she laid them. She laid two huge clutches and she still managed to 'suck herself in' when walking around. Even with those huge clutches she didn't ever have any bulging out of her sides. Luna may just be checking things out in her cage. At least you have the bin in there for her to use should she need to. Keep us posted!

Yeah I was maybe thinking that maybe she planning herself for it. Everything is set for her if she wants to lay so I guess its just a waiting game....or she just just be fat!! LOL!

She has got a lovely crest coming on now! Looks lovely and vet is happy with her progress with MBD. He reckons her legs will always be bowed but thats just her and she demonstrated having an excellent grip to him the other day! Oops naughty Luna x
