Random veiled hissing?

Sorry if I'm slow to reply, using one hand to type as I have a broken finger on the other, and my cham enjoys being on my splint.:p

This morning after turning on my light, I go to get some cereal and when I'm coming back in I hear my cham hissing at absolutely nothing. When I walk in, he's all puffed up, in that angry position pointing at the wall.

I do not have a glass terrarium, it is wire and mesh, so he can't see himself.

(and he just started rubbing his eye on my hand - ew! hehe)

Is this normal cham behavior to randomly hiss? Just seems kind of odd. He's been doing it for the past day or so.. but now it's just odd.

Pretty soon it won't be random,it will be all the time!
Most veileds are fairly aggressive and this is part of their routine.
The exception is a few are quite tame and are relaxed in and out of their cage.

Normally he is very relaxed outside of his cage, but when he's in it he goes nuts!!!

when he's in his home, he is in his territory, and is more outgoing. when you take him out of his territory, he is naturally more scared, and will not hiss as much.

Yea, they will do that. I always get a good laugh at the whole hissing and posturing at nothing. Nothing like walking down the Veiled isle and hearing the hissssssssssssssss gassssssssp... Awwwwwwwwwwwww :)

Mine hissed like that too.. But when mine did it she started bobbing her head, and moving forward and backward (Like doing a jig, on all 4's) Lol.. Looked really neat!

My 'Theory' to this was they get scared, and try to look like a leaf blowing in the wind haha, any opinions on what there trying to do when they do that? :p

Is he behaving normally otherwise? does he eat, drink, poop, etc?
Vieled's do seem to often hiss and act aggressivley, from what I've read. But I recall reading a thread on here not all that long ago about a vieled that was hissing for no particular reason, and I believe it was because he was impacted and unable to poop. I could have this all wrong, but something to watch for perhaps.

Hmm well I'll be sure to look for that. Thank you Sandra. :)

Shouldn't have impaction.. all the plant soil is covered by those nice round river rock things.

Is his mouth open when he's hissing?? What are the temperatures in the cage...basking and ambient? Is the cage near a window?

Maybe he saw a ghosta:D Animals are more receptive then we are.

Yeah, he puffs up and opens up and it sounds like a little hiss, not a full grown hiss. Temps are 72 around the cage and about 85-89 at the basking spot. The cage is NOT near a window.

I'm not sure but with the eye rubbing and the "hissing" with his mouth slightly open I wonder if there could be an infection starting in the sinus area? I'm not a vet so its just a guess.

He's going to the vet along with my beardy tomorrow. Thanks. :D

Mine does that almost every morning just about 30 minutes after the lights come on. In fact I woke up this morning to him doing his "daily territorial display", all puffed and fired up, hissing silently. He was for sure letting everyone know he's king of his jungle!
